Putting a contactor together??

Hi there, i am an idiot, i have got a lamp, 1000watts, and a digi timer, but its not rated enuff 4 the 1000w., my question is....
Can i SAFELY construct a contactor myself from components purchased from an electrical supplier. What parts would i need, and how would i do it, will it be safe, and how much will it cost?? Stuff is a hell of a lot more expensive in the uk it seems. i single 1000watt contactor, is 35 pounds, and i dont see what is in it to merit that cost. My good buddy used to work as an electrician, so all the bits, and wiring info will go 2 him to be put together(im not dumb enuff to fuck wi this shit alone), so that i know its right. can any1 shed light on this please. any1 who knows, if u could provide a list of the parts i need, and instructions for my friend to do it, i would appreci8 it. thank u, and be lucky, harry

what is it rated for? 500watt's more then likely

sec'd do you really need a dig timer for a light? from what i have play'd with i like the basic timer best. easyer and you dont have to change batterys.
i only use dig's for water pumps or co2.

to rewire with new part's. i dont have a clue

i hope some one dose. it would be nice to know
a friend of mine use's dig'y timers that are rate'd for 500 watts on his 1000's. ( 3 of them and there fine so far)
not that i would do it.

it sys on the instruction book it is rated at 480watts(2amps) resistive. I didnt just wanna use it and see, then fuck the timers. i like these digi timers, coz i can set a few programmes, and not have 2 mess with it when i wanna flip lights or whatever, plus i find u get what u pay for. anyhow, its ok, i found on OG(i h8 it, but its necessarry to go there sumtimes) an faq in the electrical saftey section, titled why has my timer failed, and what do i do about it, and it shows u how to put a contactor together, with the list of parts, and it really does look just exactly the same as the ones u buy for 35 pounds minimum(i found 1 a tenner cheaper than yesterdays) and this only adds up tp around 10 pounds to buy all the parts for the contactor. and once u know all ur correct info, u can evn build ur own version of that cannatronics light controller, which is just a couple o contactors, and a timer in a bib metal box. anyhow, glad i found that, so now u all can see it. sorry, dunno how to post a link so just go 2 the faqs on "the other site" lol and its in the electrical safety bit.

will do, naturally, when we get a whole lot of threads in this vein, we can get a proper growfaq together over here, and we will never need to venture over to "The other site" any more, lol. getting the bits tomorrow, went to an electrical supplier today, and it came to 33 pound 50, and i can buy 1 put together ready 2 go for 35, lol. it was the store though, he was wanting me to buy a contacte relay switch, that would run 4000 watts, and i just dont need that. Found a better supplier though, just gotta get a buddy with a credit/debit card to get it 4 me.

probably, maplin has all kinds of stuff, ill be putting together a proper board which will go directly from the fuse box when i move,1 board with 2 timers, 1 veg 1 flower so they operate my rooms. I am looking into finding a way of delaying switch on, what i mean is, if i had 5 1000watters, all on 12/12, i want the timer to turn on their part of the board, but give a gap of say 35 seconds between each of the 5 individual lamps turning on so i dont have 1 big surge at start up and it is staggered a bit if u understand my explanation. they have some ready made boards at the local growshop, each one can run4ooow plus fans pumps and other stuff, 180 pounds to buy, but i figure i can put 1 together with the help of my friend the electrician.

you can buy 30 amp relay from maplins for £5 its exactly the same switch as the ones in the £35 ones all you need is to wire it up

hey there Guv, LOL...Check the date on my post .... I found out it was cool, got some directions and made the bugger .... it rAN MY 1000 FOR A WHILE TIL I GOT THE NEW RELAX TIMER WITH RELAY BUILT IN, BUT NOW THE HOMEMADE CONTACTOR (whoops, sorry bout caps) is running the veg room....

I cant say they rock though as they fucked me around royalkly.... i called to check they had the bits i needed, i travelled over to the nearest store and went in...they aint got em after i checked and they said they did....
this happend 3 times in total....one time even after on the phone they said they would put them behind the counter for my friend to pick up that day...when he got there they said theyaint got the bits in stock and they dont hold things... man they fucked me about lol.... ive got a family member with a debit card now though so no moreof that bullshit from the knobheads.
