I'd just like to remind anyone who has looked at the Purple Afghan, El Yucateca or Kentis Cream and like them that they were all grown from bagseeds, albeit bagseeds from far-off, exotic places, but bagseed nonetheless. El Yucateca came from brickweed in Cancun in 2005, Kentish Cream came from a bud in Jamaica in 2005 and Purple Afghan came from roadisde plants in Afghanistan, 2005.
So that pretty much sums up why I'm not that interested in all the 'elite' clone hoopla and urge people to start seeds rather than seek out the famous clone only strains, great plants are just waiting to be found!
I'm really looking forward to seeing what Raco & esbe do with the PA, be sure to post some pics guys!
the pa story is why i want to try it bro. i love the history behind that strain. but i would be a fool to say that your grows and the looks from pa didnt influence my choice, hehe. realy like your thinking bh, guys like you are keeping the dream and spirit alive! world is full of nice things, just have to discover them! like you do!
Either I've been really lucky or special things aren't that hard to find?
Then again, no-one remembers the other Mexican I grew a couple of years ago that didn't flower properly indoors, or the Egyptians that were just wierd or the Afghans from another source that were all male, so I've had just as many complete failures as successes.
Hiya FJ, yup, those guys will do her justice I'm sure, and be very interesting to see the differences in expression between my indoor plants, outdoors in Denmark and outdoors in Spain. Alfred's outdoors look more indica leaning than mine, but for some reason my plants are always more sativa leaning in their expressions than most, cuts I've grown that other have too always seem to be more sativa in my hands, god knows why!
Yeep , your PA and Mexi look like some worthy varieties to work with . Right there with yas on tha poppin' beans tip , lookin' fer tha kill , though "elites" are held at this stable as well . Can't say enough about tha visual appreciation for your pink PA , lovely .... And we love some bad ass mexi .
Thanks for the kind words, coming from you, they mean somethign indeed!
In the last 9 months I've grown Cheese, OG Kush, Sour Diesel, Trainwreck, Chemdawg D x Nigerian Silk, all really, really good pot and well worth growing again but when i have these unique and rare gems I need to focus my limited resources on preservign and working them. I wish i had a room where I could keep all the lovely lines I have ias mothers, but that will have to wait for the future sometime!
British you said you were having trouble finding a correct male why dont you just take some leaves off dry and smoke them and whatever one has the most desired taste and smoke appeal choose.
Cheers oaktree. To be honest, all the Purple Afghans had a similar taste and potency, not much to chose between. Once I've got clones of the male rooted I'll pop him into flower and colelct his pollen. I honestly reckon that the only way to determine what traits he has that are truebreeding and which are recessive by growing out his progeny. If plenty of testers are grown, that will give me all the info I need.
Well good luck with the project. Sounds like you have quite a bit of work/growing to do. It's awesome to see people work on projects and see what comes about. Much respect for breeders, both professional and hobbyist's.
Thanks oaktree, even if the project goes badly wrong and I end up creating a load of crap, genetics-wise, I'll still enjoy the process immensely and learn a lot, which is the really important thing imho!
Very nice plants B_H and a well written write up too.......props to you man!
If you could spend that much amount of love on a large crop, it would be an awesome sight.........I know cos I've done it myself, lol, and I can tell you have a greenfinger too.
Some people say purple plants are lacking in potency, and although I've found that sometimes, I've also found a potent purple plant - this judgement was seconded and thirded by two other knowledgable people, so it just goes to show about Purple Power, lol
When we meet in A'dam next month, I'd like to try this if possible, and I will happily share some great hash with you m8.
I wish I had some PA to bring with me, a few folks have asked if I could, but dasly the cup will be too early, I am only just rooting clones now and will be putting them into flower in about a month. There is always the medium of airmail to share the goodness at a later date though.
One day I will have a field full of Purple Afghan, but for now, I can only dream! I'll get some PA cuts outdoors before too long, looking forward to seeing how it grows outdoors.
Ok cool B_H, you're welcome, I like to give praise where it's due
It's a shame about the timing, but there's always next time
A field of PA sounds great, not for the colours so much, but I really like the look of the best one, and its structure: seeing a vast canopy with those would be a sight for sore eyes I'm sure, lol
All the best for growing it outdoors, and I hope it performs as well as under lights.
