Thanks Bh....Happy frog is a Fox Farm soil..I see that the results with the coco are great....What will be the major difference between using a soil/perelite mix versus a coco base to grow in??? From the look of your plants I want to switch to coco....any tips with coco would be greatly appreciated.....Does the coco need aeration or need to be blended with something else....Thank you for your response..I need a little help from time to time...not afraid to admit it....Webo

Coco has a number of advantages over soil, coco is very, very free draining and is a very light, airy medium. This makes it almost ipossible to overwater plants, and coco is a forgiving medium in a number of other ways. My grows improved drastically when I switched to coco. I love the way you can flush coco if you have any problems with nutes and you see the changes in the plant occur very quickly, overfert shows up right away, and if serious, you just give it a flush until the runoff has a ec no more than 1.2 and voila, problem solved. The other big benefit of coco is you get hydro growth rates and yields with the simplicity of normal pot/container growing. As long as you don't mind mixing nutes and watering every day, coco is really simple and forgiving to use. There is a lot of good info in the coco section of the forum, particularly in the stickies at the top of that section, I did a lot of reading before I made the plunge into coco, and I found it boils down to making sure your ph is between 5.5 and 6, watering once a day until 10% runoff to prevent salt build-up (which can be flushed out simply anyways).

I don't suggest mixing naything else with your coco as it isn't necessary, but some folks like to add things like perlite, vermiculite etc. I suppose it depends on what brands of coco coir are available locally.

Hi Ras, I can't wait to see them flower too, fingers crossed for a purple one!

Sorry I don't have any links to bits of good info, I just kinda found bits here and bits there. One piece of info I found useful was the grow schedule of gaiusmarius, a great coco grower, I based my regime on his:

the canna nutrients and supplements are very easy to use successfully with coco coir.

for the lowest maintenance an automated drip set up would be ideal. but it takes some strength in the fingers to setup a drip system.

hand watering is also a very easy way to get your desired results. just takes a bit more discipline.

here is my fert plan. starting the day the new clones are planted in a rw cube.

rooting in rw phase, 7 to 10 days: rhizotonic full dose, a+b 1 to 1.25 ml per litter ec around 0.8 to 1.2 ph 5.7

veg phase in the coco slabs: A+B at ec 1.2 to 1.5 ph 5.7 and up to 2ml per litter, rhizo full dose for first 3 days of veg, then down to half a ml per lt till week 5 of 12/12 when you stop it.

first 2 weeks of 12/12: up your nutes as much as the plants will take it, but not over 2.0 ec. ph 5.9

after 2 weeks of 12/12 add a booster, either pk 13/14 or bioboost, or even another brand of flowering stimulator. at this point start adding the cannazym or other zym product, specially if you plan to reuse the medium.

from this point on you want to give your plants just as much as they can use, so you watch carefully that the fan leaves don't get too dark green and try and avoid burning the tips. ph 6.0 to 6.1

once you have only 5 days to go till harvest, you start a flush with plain phed water. it's very important not to start the flush too early, as a lot of growth and ripening takes place in the last days. so with a new strain it's best to wait till you start seeing amber trichome heads till you start the flush.

cool is that you can do a massive flush at once and leave the plants another few days with just water and they will have that really tasty smelly aspect that we want as soon as they are dry. only getting better as they are allowed to cure.

this also means your coco will be nicely flushed for the next batch.

if you flush for 14 days in coco, your plants will get so starved that it's no longer positive taste wise.

Here's the Purple Afghan x Cheese that has just showed sex at 37 days of veg, very nice looking lady, I'm pretty sure she will have purple buds as she is showing the same characteristic purpling on her stems and leaves that I saw on the Purple Afghan.

I repotted her into a 1.7 litre pot and although her roots looked great, I noticed one corner has some brown, dying roots. Hopefully this isn;t serious and the repooting will cure it. Not seen any dying roots on my other coco grown plants before. She looks extremely healthy though, so not worried. Gonna take some cuts of her, fingers crossed she is a keeper. I have high hopes she will have purple buds and if enough of the Cheese comes through in her expression, she could be a very nice plant indeed.

The low temps we are currently suffering here are slowing down the flowering of my ladies in the root space flowering chamber, it's only 17 degrees celsius in there currently with light on so is probably dropping below 10 with lights off. The Purple Afghan x Cheese is at 47 days since sprouting and looks more like 30, she has stretched a good deal, and looks very much like a Skunk pheno to my eyes, can't see any Purple Afghan traits in her at the moment, has me thinking I might have made a seed mixup, too early to tell yet. This lady is gonna take at least 90 days judging by how far along she is.

The bamboo pole she is staked to has taken on a curve for some reason and therefore so has the plant. The uneven growth is due to the vertical lamp, so I've rotated her 180 degrees and she will even up and become more symmetrical. A tiny tad of overfert as you can see by the slightly clawing leaves.

The Purple Afghan x Cheese is 55 days from seed and is really taking it's time to start flowering. She is just over two and a half feet tall and looks quite lanky. I think this pheno leans much more to the Skunk side. I hope she fills out a bit as she is a thin waif.
