Off the top of their heads, does anyone know of any quality PURE sativas that grow as a single main cola? And I do mean genetically, not really asking for pruning tips.
Stupid question I know, but bear with me here.
I'd go with sativas from the red sea countries and morcco. The ethiopian highland along with a sinai sativa are good bets as well as lebanese sativas. Most morccans are hybrids but I'm sure there's some sativas to be found. The cultivation techniques in morcco tend to encourage columnar plants.
I grew out some brickweed seeds and had a sativa that grew as one bud. It took about 16 weeks to finish. It vegged for a month and only got about 2' tall. I haven't smoked any yet. So they are out there. I don't have any pics it was nothing special growing. It still had very loose bud.
Zam- thanks, I had thought the Ethiopian Highland was, but I saw pictures someone said was "Ethiopian Highland" and it was anything but single colar, structured more like a blackberry bush, haha.
Someone had said they would send me some Ethiopian beans if they could manage, so that's good to hear your opinion on the Ethiopian Highland
I'll also check out that "sinai" sativa, something sounds familiar about it.
As far as the 12/12 and the cutting thing goes: I was really thinking along the lines of breeding a single cola outdoor plant, for that holy grail strain I was telling you about.
The only thing about tracking down these sativas is that you can hardly ever find them from seedbanks. Which basically means you can hardly ever find them, hahaha. There's not even a whole handful of pure sativas from the seedbanks, let alone rare ones.
Yeah Sinai sativas & Israeli skunks all are single Cola forming. I have 7 diff kinds of sinai strains one is claimed to be a Madagascar sativa ! gotta pop em.The Leb and syrian sativas Are all stout growing for hash like in the book just low fields of DONK!
I have saved kilo bag seeds from the last 8 years here in the middle east. AND Zam My
Ethiopian Highlands just sprout last week I think Ill have to do a side by side comparison.
Wont it just Christmas tree out?Its only 36 degrees in the sun today!!
i know you said you were not asking for pruning techniques, but many of the sativas i've been growing, if topped at a certain point, will grow from 4 to 8 branches growing vertically, supported by a thicker main stalk. so for each plant you get several single colas, more yield as well; less pots to tend, etc...
The light cycle and veg time bear a strong effect on whether a plant grows columnar or not. Of course some plants are incapable of growing columnar but even the most column shaped plants can grow to be quite bushy under certain light cycles or if veged long enough. I've seen plants from the original p1's that were used to breed our punto rojo line that we're selling on seedbay which grew into a 3 1/2 foot cola in the tropics. When grown indoors they grow much more branchy.
zamalito, that was a variable i didn't factor in.
so we could say that because the angle at which the sun's rays hit the earth at non-tropical non-equatorial latitudes promotes branching?
That's not what I was thinking but its definitely a possibility. I was thinking that because of the shorter summer days initiated a responese that was closer to flowering growth although not fully triggered flowering. Sort of like the plant goes straight from the seedline stage to the budset stage and stays in the budset stage with the stem elongating for a prolonged period before full on flowering is triggered so it just grows into a huge cola.
