green is ground ~ white is neutral ~ black is hot

Except that it appears that the colors used here are European standard, which is brown=hot, blue=neutral, and green/yellow is ground. The white wires appear to be coming from the capacitor, and I can't tell where the black one goes. If there is a schematic anywhere, a picture of that would be helpful.

^^^ good catch! i guess my fingers reacted faster than my eye sight could. there is normally a sticker inside almost every electrical device with some form of wiring diagram or schematic on it... as stated by Rives, an image of that would be EXTREMELY helpful.

Nothing is worth a fire. Wiring is nothing to guess at. An ugly's electrical handbook is very cheap and just as helpful.
