Well today I found an old spoon. Nothing remarkable about it aside from the fact I found it over a year since it went missing. It slipped out of a drawer in my desk and fell onto the floor enclosed by the desk (hard to explain), I moved my desk today and low n' behold there it is. As I'm about to pack a bowl I notice that there is an abnormally large amount of resin in the bowl, so much so that it needs to be scrapped before packing. As I take my paper clip to it I notice that it's not quite resin...in fact it looks like...mold.
Which brings me to this thread. Most of us don't leave a pipe on the floor for fourteen months, however it got me thinking. How many of us may have gotten a lungful of mold? I've never seen anything like this before, I've gotten mold on my harvest before...but never on resin. So with this in mind please clean your pipes at least monthly...if not for your health for the taste of your bud.
Now before you chime in and say "I would have noticed mold" I did a bit of "testing". I took the pipe outside wearing a painters mask (best I could do on short notice) and lit the mold on fire. It burned with very little smoke, and the fire removed nearly all traces of it. While my bowl was left with little patches on it from a quick lighter pass over a smaller mold infestation may be wiped out with one lungfull if you catch my drift.
So let my near mishap be a lesson. And no I'm not a dirty slob, just slightly stupid when it comes to looking for things.
