i have been pruning in veg (i guess not enough) and went into 12/12 3 days ago. i pruned a couple of days b4 going 12/12, but i see now there will not be enough room when these ladies stretch... ( 2 headbangers,1 sdkush 2 somangoes) - do i just bend the tops, or can i prune off a good 6/8 inches ... thanks

I supercrop almost all my plants anymore. I always underestimate the stretch. I wouldn't chop the tops or you'll lose yield like Phytoplankton said. Smash the stem a little with your fingers where you want to bend it, then gently bend it over. It might grow back up, but I just do it again. You need to be a little more careful though if you're rebending a knot.

Supercrop the top(s).

Squeeze the stem till you feel it crush slightly at the bend and push it over. The stem will probably crack a bit. No worries. It will heal in a day or two. Longish supercropped tops can be some of your best buds. They love the light that way. I do it often to keep the top canopy even or for the overzealous Sativa.
