Pruning 3 days into flower?

So I'm 3 days into flower, i need to prune the undersides of my girls. Do you think light pruning this early in flower is ok? or will it stress the girls too much and potentially cause hermies? Im doing a SCROG and want to get the understuff pruned right away so all that energy goes into my stretching tops. Suggestions or comments?

I lollipop all the way up to week 2 w/o any issues. sometimes week 3 for some stragglers, but that's the max time I mess with my plants.

@DemonTrich yeah i would've liked to do all the pruning already before i flipped i to flower, but i overwatered on the 2nd watering and it slowed them down for a week, and by the time i had the time to do pruning i had to flip to flower already. But i have pruned up to 3 weeks into flower before without any problems. thanks for the feedback and reassurance :)

As long as you're not trimming 50% of the plant, you'll be fine man, it won't hermie your plant. Trim away! I trim throughout flower until actual buds are formed.

I too trim 2-3 weeks into flower. Mostly bottom larf and big fan leaves that block too much light to lower bud sites.

Its fine to prune at any point, just follow the general gardening rules.

Never take more than 30% of the plant. (Sure you can or prolly have but to ensure survival 30% is rule of thumb)

Do not prune consecutive days in a row. Give the plants 3-5 days to recover. (Once again this is more for harsh pruning.)

After pruning misting with water helps the plant to avoid shock.

As does a carboload. (Molasses or whatever you use for sugar supp)

Pruning best done in the morning or evening avoiding the heat of the day. (Not as important indoors)

You can pull a shade leaf, snip some unruley shoots, take a few clones with little effect on the plant. These guidelines are more for heavy pruning and such.

So if you need to defoliate the under sides or clean up larf try to plan to do it when you can get it all done or as much as possible for best results.

Cannabis is tough as hell so harsh pruning does not normally bother it and these above suggestions are just general gardening practices. I try to follow them because I see the positive results in all plants and trees. I like healthy plants.

Best vibes!

If your environment and feeding schedule is on point you should be fine if you also have semi stable genetics. :D

Thanks everyone!

Thanks everyone!

@ChasingGreen, Hold Your Fire, sturgeongeneral, Lester Beans, and Tony Green: Thank you all for responding! Pretty much everything you guys said is what I have done over the years, glad I've been doing it right ;) lol. I'll go through and prune all the parts that are wasting energy, then 4 or 5 days later defoliate where needed sparingly. Thanks everyone! I'll be keeping my Grow Diary up to date, enjoy the show if you wish!

Let me play the Devils' advocate here and say that in my years of growing MJ never once did pruning/trimming/defoliating/etc cause any "stress" or hermies or any other negative effect. The plants don't lay down after being pruned, they don't wilt over, fan leaves don't droop, they don't stop growing momentarily, nothing. I trim several times throughout there life cycle, including a few times in veg, the day i put them into flower, a week into flower and then two weeks into flower. Get out your Fiskars and prune away my man!!

If it is a stress, since it's got to be done, it would be logical to do it when the plant can best accomodate the stress, before it puts energy into flower formation.

I don't think it stresses the plant that much, if at all. It's often done to improve air-flow. Since the plant is sort of like a big Lung, I think it likes that improved airflow.

I have sort of a mental block against removing branches - I just don't like doing it.

So I do it slowly, starting at the bottom. I ask myself, "do I want to trim this bud when it's done ?" If the answer is no, off it comes.

This has been my experience as well, been growing indoor continuously for 4 years, plus an outdoor crop and another year of indoor before that. I've never really noticed it slow them down at all, just wanted to get some fresh feedback so THANK YOU :)

funny you mention that

funny you mention that

Be careful with the elemental its got high numbers I believe.

Funny you mention the Elemental having high numbers, i was supposed to top dress 2 tsp per 5 gallon pot, so i gave them what might have been slightly more than 2 per pot, some of the leaves on the Sunset Sherbet showed over fertilizer signs, so did just a couple of Mendo Breath, and maybe like 1 Blueberry x Cookies. Guess that was probably from the elemental lol
