Project Sun Shade

How do we get a sunshade between us and the sun?
It's not a new idea. In it's current form, millions of smaller reflective films will join together, and some sort of propulsion system will keep them in place. It's a bit more than a glitter cloud, which was my initial idea. We kinda need it now though. At a time when a glitter cloud is about of level of achievement. If only we could get such a useful payload deployed.

I'm amazed Musk isn't on this project. A private shade could be rented out for real money.

Do rocketiers get payloads into space?

This is an in idea to keep coming back to, if you think about stuff when stoned. It might be a manageable way of decreasing global warming. Not just that, you could spot cool ocean air coming in over mountains, forcing rain. Perhaps reclaiming land.

We need this.

You have to block the radiation outside the atmosphere.

Otherwise the heat you're trying to block, still ends up warming the atmosphere.

Like if you're trying to block the sun from coming into your house - plywood outside leaning against the house, blocking the window, vs. curtains indoors.

The Atmosphere - "It extends from Earth's surface to an average height of about 12 km (7.5 mi; 39,000 ft), although this altitude varies from about 9 km (5.6 mi; 30,000 ft) at the geographic poles to 17 km (11 mi; 56,000 ft) at the Equator, with some variation due to weather."

So the glitter, mirrors, whatever needs to be pretty high up. Mt. Everest high and then some.

It needs to be in space.
You could set off a glitter bomb between us and the sun, with just some shade for the equator as your goal. The first problem with that, is when it drifts into a ring around us. Nights would be lighter.

Keeping the shade in place, in that solar wind, requires thought. It all needs to get up there too. It's miles and miles of Mylar sheeting.

There was a competition to get a Kg into space. It ran for years. By now, I expect it's about doing it the cheapest.

Perhaps a static like charge could keep a flake of glitter, with it's reverse side the us. If it were always shiny side out, it could orbit. Fuck the satellites.. I can get cable and live to watch it. Satellites are looking redundant anyway. High altitude drones are so much cheaper.

If you save the planet, everyone here owes you their life. You provide your family a place to live, for years to come. Everyone would know your name forever. Musk is pissing up the wall with Mars. It just leaves a stain for a while. This is our space ship. Works rather well. Flying through space, keeping us alive on it. If we can't fix the old car, we have no hope of making another.

Yes... We got 6" of snow when I was a kid. Now we get 6 minutes. Only people with 5 minute memory spans can't see the effects of global warming.

The summer of 2021 might provide some related data points.

Just gave the Cann plants their afternoon water.

They may not need it today, but it's supposed to get up to 112 F on Sunday.

They get their main watering about 8 AM, but I figure the roots are happier when they're not baking hot.

I guess I could add white rocks on top of the soil, or something.
