Cannabis has changed so much over the past 10-15 years. And not necessarily for the better, imo. The classics from the 2000-2013 era seem mostly lost to the annals of time, in the general market. I see "premium" bags from legitimate dispensaries labeled Blueberry Haze, containing rock solid indica buds that require a grinder to break up (yikes). The once ubiquitous OG Kush is nowhere to be found at all. Bubba? TW? Good luck. Most everything nowadays is some derivative of Gelato. It has over-saturated the market to the point where retail smokers are going through a ton of different "strains", only to realize that all of the "modern" stuff has the same soulless high. I, along with many friends, miss the great classics from back in the day. A name that continues popping up again and again in conversations, is the East Coast Sour Diesel. It's hard to say if the original clone still exists today. A few select hands may still be holding it, but my due diligence shows that it might be gone forever. If I'm mistaken let me know please.
I was fortunate enough to have stashed away a good number of different strains/crosses in seed form, between 2006-2013. One of these crosses happens to be ESCD x (OG x Chemdog), by GanjaRebel.
The main goal of the project is to eventually find an individual worthy of carrying the ESCD surname in its title, whatever that ends up being. Out of the 14 or 15 seeds the pack came with, 12 remain. I grew 2 or 3 seeds back around 2012 and got 2 females.
Those 2 females were an incredible mashup of all the core characteristics of the Chem derived lines. They had the structure of ECSD/OG Kush, a strong ChemD/ECSD nose and taste, along with the potent, punchy, blitzed out high that this family is known for. Effects were extremely strong and long lasting. Plants had great vigor and health through all cycles. A very well done cross, kudos to GanjaRebel.
Fingers are crossed that all or most of these will open. Hoping for a decent female:male ratio. The individual we are seeking will most likely not be found in this F1 generation. I will most likely make an open pollinated F2 generation and start looking through them as a starting point. I will have to see how the F2 generation turns out before making further decisions on the next steps to refining the line.
Seeds have been soaked tonight in peroxide solution. After 14-16 hours, they will be placed into cups prepped with Promix HP inoculated with bacillus amyloliquefaciens.
Will update when/if the seeds crack. Wish me luck!
