Project ECSD: An Attempt To Bring Back a True Classic

Cannabis has changed so much over the past 10-15 years. And not necessarily for the better, imo. The classics from the 2000-2013 era seem mostly lost to the annals of time, in the general market. I see "premium" bags from legitimate dispensaries labeled Blueberry Haze, containing rock solid indica buds that require a grinder to break up (yikes). The once ubiquitous OG Kush is nowhere to be found at all. Bubba? TW? Good luck. Most everything nowadays is some derivative of Gelato. It has over-saturated the market to the point where retail smokers are going through a ton of different "strains", only to realize that all of the "modern" stuff has the same soulless high. I, along with many friends, miss the great classics from back in the day. A name that continues popping up again and again in conversations, is the East Coast Sour Diesel. It's hard to say if the original clone still exists today. A few select hands may still be holding it, but my due diligence shows that it might be gone forever. If I'm mistaken let me know please.

I was fortunate enough to have stashed away a good number of different strains/crosses in seed form, between 2006-2013. One of these crosses happens to be ESCD x (OG x Chemdog), by GanjaRebel.

ESCDxOGCD 1.jpg

The main goal of the project is to eventually find an individual worthy of carrying the ESCD surname in its title, whatever that ends up being. Out of the 14 or 15 seeds the pack came with, 12 remain. I grew 2 or 3 seeds back around 2012 and got 2 females.

Those 2 females were an incredible mashup of all the core characteristics of the Chem derived lines. They had the structure of ECSD/OG Kush, a strong ChemD/ECSD nose and taste, along with the potent, punchy, blitzed out high that this family is known for. Effects were extremely strong and long lasting. Plants had great vigor and health through all cycles. A very well done cross, kudos to GanjaRebel.

ESCDxOGCD 2.jpg

Fingers are crossed that all or most of these will open. Hoping for a decent female:male ratio. The individual we are seeking will most likely not be found in this F1 generation. I will most likely make an open pollinated F2 generation and start looking through them as a starting point. I will have to see how the F2 generation turns out before making further decisions on the next steps to refining the line.

Seeds have been soaked tonight in peroxide solution. After 14-16 hours, they will be placed into cups prepped with Promix HP inoculated with bacillus amyloliquefaciens.

Will update when/if the seeds crack. Wish me luck!🙏🏻🤞🏻

Putting good vibes out there for you. Hoping some old school makes a comeback, the modern stuff is 1 dimensional.

UPDATE:

2 seeds popped so far! Hull split around the 16 hour mark for these.
SEEDS POPPED .jpg

Just planted them into Promix HP inoculated with bacillus amyloliquefaciens.
SEEDS POPPED 2.jpg

I left the rest to continue soaking in the peroxide solution to try and coax germination.
SEEDS POPPED 3.jpg

Hoping the rest will pop, but considering their age, I've already accepted the possibility they won't. Keeping fingers crossed!

Theres no reason behind this. The Real Sour is Alive and Well. LOL.
Thank you for your opinion. This project is moving ahead full steam. I have my own reasons for it. If you wish to join and enjoy the show, you're welcome here. If your intention is merely to spread negative energy in another member's thread, by all means please continue showing us your true character.

wish this were true, but shed be out there on a large scale if it were. It may look like it, but nothing ive seen in over a decade has the smell and taste at full power that she once did.

This looks like a great project, wish you luck in finding something special.

Love it! Been quite the revival in interest in all types of Sour Diesel in the last few years. Can only mean good things for cannabis gentics as a whole

Feel free to point in the right direction. Now that I'm legal I'm trying to obtain some of the old school flavors. Urkle, Katsu, Ecsd, nl#5. I'd be stoked to get any of those back.

Nice thread I'm tuned in for the progress!

It may be too late but I find that soaking in a jar and shaking vigorously every now and then removes those bubbles on the seeds and allows them to sink. Only seeds that sink seem to sprout for me.

Right on! Awesome project. I whole heartedly agree with your assessment of the current cannabis industry as I firmly believe we need to go back pre-cookies to fix the modern state of the industry.

hey there OSG…..worthy project and all the best

we grew some ecsd x Ogers , pollen was collected from 5 males and 4 females made a ton of seeds

we did find some plants that leaned to the diesel side and a couple that expressed the kush side….both excellent smoke

the original seeds were ecsd from Rez and the Ogers was the Ghost cut….i think it was brother Wesos who made the original seeds and I know it was ctg who passed the Ghost cut to Wesos or Rez , hell , it has been a long time ago….

pretty sure it was Muggles who sent me the seeds a long time ago….RIP

You are mistaken. ECSD is everywhere these days. From Chaco's hand into mine and I have been passing it ever since... the Skunktek cut is also ECSD and it is everywhere as well and super easy to grab online.

you can get the ECSD clone and many other classics like the original OG Kush, the 92 ogk, SFV, TK, HPK, Headband, Chem D and 91 in dispos all over VT sold by Ganja Rebel Dan's VT operation. I helped get many old classics into their op and they vend the clones along with Dan's stellar hybrids like the double OG Chem, Natty Bumpo, 5Gs and others. they also vend all the new classics too, there's no other OP in the US that vends this variety of genetics.

Rebel Grown VT has clones and flower in dozens of VT dispos and in the spring thousands of clones a week are moving into very lucky hands all over the state.

the real classics have never left the east coast and I have worked tirelessly for years to make certain they are spread far and wide and It's ICmag members who passed me these, who hold and recover and quarentine these and they are the ones behind the scenes doing the difficult work of saving and sharing these classics... #ICmagFamForTheWin
