Problems with compact soil

Has anybody ever had problems with their soil becoming so compact that it becomes difficult for water to penetrate into the soil? I´m using BioBizz soil which was fanastic in the beginning. During vegetative stage I had explosive growth, but now I´m flowering and my plants have slowly been turning yellow. I thought maybe I was overwatering at first, but the other day I stuck my finger in the soil and I noticed two things: 1) I couldn´t stick my finger in the soil because it was so hard and compact. 2) After scratching the top layer of soil away, which by the way was moist, the soil underneath was bone dry!. Anybody ever had this problem? Any suggestions?

Yes, I think everyone has. Keep it mulched, keep it slightly turned, change your watering methods, use a drop of surfactant or liquid dish soap to help the water penetrate the soil, water from the bottom.

I cut my FF OF 3:1 with perlite and never have compaction probs,
recently started adding coco to the soil and its great stuff, don't water as often and loosens the soil even more
