problem after switching to promix

I've been growing for a while in sunshine #4 mix but the hydro stores have been pushing promix bx over sunshine #4. Said they had many complaints about spider mites and gnats in the sunshine and that promix was mixed indoors so it was guaranteed sterile. So, I finally caved and switched but now plants that have grown fine for years are showing funny spots on the leaves. I uploaded some pictures. It's definitely a problem with the mix since that is the only thing that has changed. water is 7.0 pH and using low doses of age old organics. I looked online and the pH of sunshine #4 is 7 and promix is listed at 5 to 6 so I was thinking maybe a pH problem? After reading some threads on using promix I added some powdered dolomite to the promix and the runoff reads around 6.5 now, before it was a little under 6. Do you think this will solve the problem or is there something else I'm overlooking? Half the strains I have are showing problems in the promix. thanks

i wouldnt worry too much. transplant it and start ur feeding. i only use bx myself for 3+ years. been told to switch to sunshine. dont fix it if its not broke. promix already has lime but i also add my own too. since soilless is considered passive hydro i ph my watering/feeding between 5.8-6.3. just my experience good luck.

Your problem is you are buying bagged soil. Mix your own, and control everything your plants get. With the correct amount of compost PH is not a factor in growing organically. There is no need to ph your water runoff. You are stuck some where between hydro, and soil.

Looks like thrips to me too. Funny that the store convinced you to switch and what they recomended most likely had thrips in it.

They're pretty easy to get rid of though

Scoped several leafs and you guys are right. 3rd leaf I found one thrip. Thanks for the help. I'll start treating. Do you guys know if soil can come infected with thrips? It's bizarre this happened when I switched to promix and there was a quarter sized hole in the bale which makes me wonder.

yes.. they can come from soil... they can come from u walking into a hydro store or garden store that has there soil stored outdoors.. or that grow plants in there stores.. or even from ur clothes if u were in some1 elses garden.. sometimes they come in from outside if u have a window or intake thats near a plant thats infested.. it can happen..

grab some Spray with Spinosad.. Monterey garden spray is what everyone uses.. and it will kill them fast.. 2-3 applications.. and there gone.. thrips are like the best thing u can get honestly lol. there easy to get rid of.. an they dont damage plants toooo bad..

ull cry if u get mites.. put it that way.. mites are a horrible situation compared to thrips.. good luck.. that will help with yield.. thrips causes stress which in turn lowers yield lots.

I dont think you can get spidermites from a bag of soil unless it had a lot of green plant growth. They wouldnt survive in just soil
