My local home depot carries it. If you can't find it there, try your
local indoor/hydro gardening center. They should have it for sure.

Yeah, Home Depot is the only place I have seen it. I've only recently switched my room to Pro-Mix and currently have about 200 gallons of my soil mix circulating throughout. It has the standard soil gnats and seems to have the Mg deficiency most other commercial potting soils have when growing cannabis. I'm very happy with the soil even though I have found a few MiracleGrow-esqe sticks decomposing in it. Cost of doing business (CODB) aparrently.

y would organics ...make them hatch?? i use fish emultions and bat guano. and ive used miracle grow b4 and they still were there...?whats the diff

Ive never had any gnats in fox farms ocean forest soil. It has like 20 diferent organic things in it. At 20 bucks a bag tho, it better be good gnat free organic soil damnit! haha

99% of soil you buy has gnats in it because the eggs are already in the soil waiting to hatch.

its easy to prevent them from hatching though, simply throw a layer of pertlite over the top of the soil and the little bastards will have a VERY hard time making it up.

another thing you can do is pasteurize your soil to sterilize it.

the ocean forest soil is sterile, most the shit in the bag you buy isnt...hence the price diff.

I actually use the promix and FF ocean forest in combination.
Cut it about 2 to 1, adding more perlite to the bottom 1/3 of my pots.
Never have any problems. I usually get by without having to use any additional ferts for the next 2-3 weeks after transplanting. Love'em both.

It all depends

It all depends

hey Dances, i get my pro-mix at agway also and you can't beat their prices, then there is the added benefit that my local agway keeps their pro-mix indoors, in a wharehouse. i have found this to practically eliminate fungus gnats from my grows. see i used to buy my pro-mix from a little garden store down the road from me, but theirs is stored outside under a little lean-to and always ends up with me dealing with literally thousands of those little bastards(the gnats) but with the bales from agway it is pretty rare for me to have any gnats. So this is kinda what i've been thinking, when pro-mix is made it is probably gnat egg free, but due to sloppy shipping and storage, gnats are able to lay their eggs in the bales. then when you get it wet the eggs hatch out rather quickly. i guess that if this was true then any bale of pro-mix with no holes in it would still be gnat free eh?
what do you guys think?

Most good potting soils have been sterilized, usually by steam. I don't understand the gnat problem. Never had it. I have great success with Lowe's at $1.65/40lbs, mixed with sphagnum peat, plus perlite and a bit of lime.

I have grown with at least five major brands of potting soils over the last five years and every one had gnats, every bag, every time. No exceptions.

Thats is the reason i am not growing with soil..
Those dayum bugs... But as far as soil for outdoors whats better FF ocean forrest or Pro-mix? thanx.. peace

sack :friends: :canabis: :joint:

for outdoor?? unless youre some tycoon and can afford huge ass amounts of prebagged ocean forest, id say go with promix. hell even if ff was affordable i still say go with promix.
