Rezdog almost hit it right on the head. There isn't much large-scale outdoor production in central Florida these days. However, this was also partly due to the real estate explosion in the past ten years. It seems every acre has been surveyed and appraised multiple times. The only place to grow is in the national forest, and the only suitable places are literally overpopulated with vagrant/lunatic/badass campsites.

I disagree that most of the 'regs' come from Miami. Atlanta is the real hub for the majority of the Mexican trafficking organizations. Most of the 'mids' crosses the border in Arizona or California. Whereas most of the 'regs' are still crossing the border in Texas. From Atlanta or Houston, Miami will recieve major shipments. This leads many from the region to believe Florida is the original point of entry. I've heard too many stories about people in Gainesville having to drive 6 hours south to get pot from Miami, which originally made it's way from Atlanta, only 3 hours north of Gainesville.

Since 2001, especially after Sept. 11, it has become harder and harder to smuggle that much into Florida through the sea. The roadways offer the best chance.

It seems whacky and inefficient, but it turns out to be the cartel's most economical way of smuggling such a large volume of cannabis into Florida. In reality, what smuggling occurs in the narrowly bottle-necked state of Florida is saved for higher-profit ventures. When compared to other contraband (cocaine, heroin, or humans), marijuana has too little of a profit-margin for it's total volume. 200 pounds of pot takes up a LOT of space on a boat, and that will only last a few weekends in Gainesville. Imagine the total amount of marijuana smoked in one weekend by all of the college students in Florida, alone.

That's not to say that there isn't some awesome mom and pop organizations still flyin' under the radar from 'back in the day'. Every blue moon, you'll still see some killer Jamaican red hair coming from Tampa. Florida is the only place in the US you can find authentic Jamaican. It's barely compressed, darkgreen/brown, dense nug with big mature seeds that look more like beans than anything else. Everyone is consistently amazed at the appearance, and there are many theories as to how it is packaged and transported to Tampa. Either way, it is a beautifully grown, hybrid stinky bud that will fool you into taking the biggest rip. That's when you come back to earth and realize why you're paying 'mids' prices for it. Someone needs to teach those guys how to flush their soil. That pot is HARSH!

There is a TON of indoor cultivation in this state (puns intended). It reminds me of the Terminator movies when we would drive along the turnpike at dusk and see the police helicopters swooping into the residential areas with FLIR. They have helicopter units in Miami which stay on patrol duty every night.

Still, Miami supplies a large portion of the high-quality 'krippy' which goes to Gainesville, Orlando, and all the other major college towns. The stink of it is, those college kids are happy to spend top dollar on weight (5k/lb?!). So, unless you know someone, and pay out the ass, it's extremely difficult to get the best pot when you live in Miami. Don't get me wrong, I've seen some streets strains going for very reasonable prices recently (3200/lb), but it was on 'A' grade, certainly not the 'AAA' grade which student at UF are proud to pay $120 1/4 for.

I think Johnny Rotten said it best when comparing cannabis to fish. The two markets are comparible in every way. It's funny, I've heard that comparison quite often in Florida. Then again, if you know much about the tuna market, it's hard not to see the similarities.

Still, Rotten hit it right on the head. At any point, it's possible to score five completely different types of commercial pot in Florida. The only problem is, unless it's domestic, the handlers don't taken care of their product, and it all tastes the same (hay).

Some of the 'mids' i recieved earlier this year for $125 an ounce beat out any of the Canadian 'beasters' i've ever smoked. I had convinced myself I was scoring some Homegrown Appalachian Skunk until my connection convinced me that it was Mexican (via Arizona). Aside from 'mids', nothing else is worth messing with in Florida. You're liable to get a bag of absolutely moldy, immature, leafy blah...

This is all purely coming from my insight, and a background of having once lived in the state for six years. Then again, Florida is a crazy place. I've seen mass quantities of Jamaican hash oil packaged for commercial wholesale, and yet I've never met anyone who has smoked the stuff. Perhaps it left the state, but I wasn't let on to believe that. Anyone familiar with that stuff? I never smoked it, but it was black, and gooey, and smelled like pineskunk.

EasyBake speaks the Gospel. Period. Pre 9/11 was a whole different game. Prices doubled on regs/mids almost a month after when everyone realized the free for all was over. It took a more than a year for them to go back to reasonable amounts. Thank god for Arizona mids direct from the Mexican Cowboys....I'd rather give my money to them than some of the pieces of shite that grow the indoor around where i live. Florida has always been a hub for the green and the white, but that doesn't mean it ALL comes in here. it just means most of the dealers are here ;)

yeah I've smoked that jamaican oil. smells like pencil shavings. I think they are using some sorta high grain alcohol to make it or something.

it is good burns nice but when it catches fire on its own (all the first few hits it boils and goes out) makes a big smoke whoof and its cashed. thats all the impurities you don't wanna hit that you wanna puff that last hit out the pipe.

we get a lil jamaican here in new orleans but not much. last time I had it they said it was smuggled in ceramic crocodiles.
