the 600 watt light is more effeceint in terms of light/watt but the 1000 still will outperform it in total light output just not quite as effecient. the light you should choose should be based on your growing setup. 600s are great for scrog lst and very short veg (> 2 week depending on strain) sog this is because the light penetraction does not have to be as great on tall plants and you can get the light closer to the plants so in these situations your plants MAY be better off with a 600 watt cause in actually they will receive more light (because the light is closer to the cannopy than it would be with a 1000 watt)
if you plant to grow trees or plants over 3 feet or longer veg sog then the 1000 is best because of its penetractive power. for university, get an aircooled 1000 as i think it gives you more gorw options than the 600 though the 600 is best for many applications.

and lumens to heat
its a lot more versatile than a 1000 as stated above, you can get the 600 much closer to the canopy but it also puts out enough lumens to have it further away for taller plants.

i was told that it was partly because the 1000's are mass produced for street light but it seems like thats a better answer lol.

The 1K are massed produced and the price comes down b,cause of it.The 600,s are less popular and therefore considered a small volume seller,thus the reason for the higher cost of the 600....so I,ve been told by someone who is in the light/electrical biz.
It does make sense...but if they mass produced 600,s then the cost would drop on them..hmmmm......everyone start buying 600,s

Speaking of a 600 watt what number of plants do you guys think would be best to use for a 600 watt light? I'm wondering because in my future grows I want to use up all the light I can and get a lot of weight to smoke in the end. I planned on growing 4-5 plants at a time in the future, is this the ideal amount for a single 600watter?
depends on your style of grow and your veg time. you could do sog and put 4+ plants per sqft or you could grow scrog and only grow 4 under the entire light or you could grow regular (no training) and then it would all depend on your veg time. your most effeceitn setup (yeild wise) will most likly be a SOG or SCROG as the 600 doesnt have as great of light penetration that the 1000 has.
