I was just wondering what the significance of ppm is and i got ahold of some ppm litmus test strips and i was wondering which water i am supposed to put the litmus paper in?
"PPM" and "TDS" are bastardized versions of EC or Electrical Conductivity. Water itself is something of an insulator, it's the stuff in the water that conducts electricity, stuff like nutes. The greater the nute concentration the higher the EC.
Because nutes are acidic, EC and pH move in opposite directions. The higher the EC the lower the pH and vice versa.
First test your tap water to see where your pH starts. Then test after adding nutes to see where you're at. Test res water daily and record it and EC to determine if you're over/under feeding or, if drip to waste, measure waste water run off.
