Power Strip + Light Timer

Hey folks! Couple of questions for ya that I haven't been able to dig out of the ol search feature.

For my Rubbermaid grow, I'm using (8) 42w CFLs, and instead of worrying about rewiring a bathroom vanity to work with an extension cord, I picked up 2 power strips as well as (4) light socket/2-prong wall plug adapters and (4) "Y" shaped light adapters.

Now, like most power strips, these have the little red toggle "On/Off" switches on them. I will be taping them into the "On" position for obvious reasons, but I'm wondering when I go to plug them into a light timer, will the timer be able to shut the whole strip off? I want the two strips, each with 4 bulbs plugged into them, to shut off and turn on at the same time with the light timer. How would I go about doing this? I'm guessing I would need to attach both power strips to an additional strip, and then have that one plug into the light timer.

I know it sounds like a silly question but I don't want to get it all installed only to find it wasn't what I expected.

I hope this explanation makes sense. If not, let me know how I can clear things up. Thanks!

just to be on the safe side, I would get a couple of the "heavy duty" timers

Do these toggle switches light up? you dont want red light in there during lights out.

I would also use 2 power bars, and 2 power bars. I would be more concerned with tripping the breaker inside the power bar

Pesonally I wouldn't worry much about the red power breakrs. Hey make sure you add a little computer type fan for ventillation. Hey arre you going to flower in there as well?

The box is actually going to be vented with a 4" Vortex inline fan blowing into an external carbon scrubber. I thought about a 120mm comp fan, but I don't think that will be strong enough to blow through the filter. I don't know for sure though.

This is a good point. I was thinking that when I taped them into the "On" position, I would use some heavy duty tape so the light doesn't come though. But you're right, gotta let the ladies sleep in darkness.

Yes sir. Vegging and flowering will take place in the same box.

I think you may have meant "2 power strips and 2 light timers", am I correct? That's not a bad idea either. then I wont have to worry about overloading anything. I will be running around 336w of CFL on two different strips after all :D

I should also mention that my Rubbermaid grow is slightly larger than others. While most are using the 30gal tubs, I upgraded and got 35 gal tubs. Dimensions are roughly 33" x 20" x 19"

Uh just plug 1st strip into timer, 2nd into the 1st when the time cuts off the 1st strip the 2nd strip will also be cut off, no need to have a "third" unless you think your cord is gonna catch on fire from a bulb, get a power squid
