power situation

alright a little background. its an attic 'grow' but just to start my summer plants. Only problem is there are no outlets, BUT there are 3 regular lights. If i used those plugs that screw into the bulb fixture, how many watts would be okay for this circuit. Essential my floros would end up being the only power on the circuit, i think?? i was thinking of hooking up 3 of the 40 watts i have chillen around the house

If you have 3 lights you can just get a power chord extension conneted where one of the light sockets is and connect everything to it...

How much wattage? Depends on your house's system.. Usually 1500-2000 for small/normal houses..

3x40w CFL? For doing what? That's not very much, unless it's just for vegging a few plants..

Assuming you have a 220v voltage, if you have a 15amp fuse, it will break at 3300w (power=voltage x current). 110v means it would break at 1650w..

my understanding is we have 120V circuits, not 110.

http://wiki.answers.com/Q/Why_does_the_US_run_at_120V_when_most_of_world_runs_at_240V

120 times 15 amps = 1800 watts. However more than 3 hours use is considered continuos and a continuos load should be 80% total capacity. So thats 1440 watts

You could use the screw in plugs, just check what they are rated at

I studied physics and i know that voltage fluctuate... that's why on circuits there's written over 110-130 v, or 200-240 V, instead of 120 or 220.

To be REALLY safe or you place a stabilizer of current flow before the fuse ($$$) or you use this law:

Wattage=Volts*Amper*{mu}

{mu}=3*Cos(Phi)/4

Cos(Phi) it's a strange measure, i'm not going to explain it in english but you can find it on any electric book.

It moves beetwen 0 (never) and 1 (very few times). It's 0.6-0.8 for HPS/MH lamps, 0.9 for neons. Just consider 0.5 to be safe.

Old tricks: If you have an analogic power measurator you can trick it by removing a small circuit, the rephase circuit, from the eletronic device.

For example you can half the read power consumption of your HPS, or reduce to 1/3 the read power consuption of your washingmachine :p

Just be careful: with digital measurator it doesn't work, and won't raise the efficency of your devices, it will just **** the reader. And if the electric system is poor will also reduce the life of your devices.

cos phi just depends on the imaginary part of the circuit (everything that's not a resistance is part of the imaginary)
what you are saying is that the security coeficient is 3/4 of the cos phi (power factor), but that's just it.. a security coeficient.. the circuit doesn't burn if you use it at maximal power, but it will heat up. the thing is circuits/parts/engines/whatever are made to work at nominal power, and not at maximum power, that will depend on the circuit..
tension fluctuates because power grids are made of a large number of electrical power transforming machines, and they don't always make the same power, plus the power is sent over power lines, which by themselves are resistances so the further away you are from a power station the less power you have.. plus..you will probably notice that at nigtht you have more power, that's because this is like sharing a cable connection, when everybody is using power, the same machines can't deal with everything, when there's less people using, there's more power available!
Sorry if it's a bit confusing but at 3 am after working all day... but i can clear up something if anybody needs ;)

the point is, you have plugs, get lights there, and try them.. the more the merrier and don't forget cool white is for veg, warm white is for flower

they are old T8's. Two 40 watts bulbs in each fixture. Planned on just vegging 20-30 for outdoor grows. Was planning on maybe 3 fixture but there are 12-13 available for use
