Power outage warning?

I live in an area with somewhat frequent short power outages. Sometimes only two seconds. It shuts off the 1k lights, they won't come back on till I let them cool and manually turn them back on. That's ok if I know they went out so I can go take care of it but when I'm asleep it's not ok. Is there any device sold or that I can make that will alert me when a short power outage has occured. Thank u for your answers!

Yeah go to apcc.com and check out uninterruptible power supplies, or a UPS for short. YOu can't run lights off of them, but you can run your timers on them and hook the unit to a laptop so it will tell you load, voltages, and outage information.

There are also delay boxes on the market that will keep your lights off for 15 minutes after an outage occurs, so they don't try to do a hot-restrike.

No prob man, if you do get a small UPS for this, I'd advise to maybe put a small CFL bulb on it so if you do have outages, it will keep your plants light cycle from getting screwy. A small ups should be able tun a 14w CFL for at least an hour or two, so flowering isn't screwed up.

Thanks- I found this mentioned on a different thread but my net searches can turn up no other info on who makes this or sells it- any help appreciated.

"If you want a prewired one, check out the Cap HLC-1 variable temp cutoff - The HLC-3 also includes a 15 minute delay so the light won't try to hot start."

plug-in power out alarm

plug-in power out alarm

You're looking for a plug-in type power outage alarm. When power goes out, even for a split second, and then back on, this device emits an alarm, like a smoke detector, for 5, 10, or 15 minutes. Then you'll know if the power has gone out even briefly.

Best Regards

Find an alarm clock like mine. When it is set for the a wakeup and a power loss occurs, since it no longer knows what time it is the alarm goes off so I can't oversleep. Nothing fancy, just a GE I bought at Walmart a few years ago. ten or 15 bucks.

You could use a time delay relay like this, if power is interupted, it can be adjusted to wait up to 10 min. to energize load once power is restored.
