Power outage fucked up my ballast?

I have been running a 250mh from HTG for the last month or so. Yesterday there was a storm which knocked out power. It might of experianced a power surge and blackout. After that every time it powers on it sounds louder for a second then goes to normal trying to ignite it. It will start to light up for about 15 seconds then it will go out, wait 15 or something to try again and repeat. I got a 400w and 250w CMH system coming in soon so it doesn't really matter but what happened? The ballast seems like such a simple system. Are any of the parts replaceable?

Also, where can I get some temporary flouros to prevent stretch? I got some of the weird, expensive blue ones, like 25w and a big 45w white. How many watts do I need to keep on them to prevent stretching for a week or so before my new stuff comes in? Thanks.

did you leave the ballast off for a while? Sometimes the lights wont start if they are turned off and on quickly, basically a hot start

Then I dont know. When you get the new ballast you can try swapping parts till you find the defective part, if everything is the same

I would just put some fluros as close as possible I guess till the new stuff comes in

From the sounds of it, I'd guess it to be the lamp or capacitor that failed. If it helps, I'll see if can find a link for ballast diagnostics.

That would be great, was about to open it up and look around. Anyone know if these capacitors are easy to replace?

Hey if the ballast box has louvers, and you can see into it, alot of times when the capacitor fails, it bulges out, making it really obvious whats wrong. If you don't feel comfortable doing repairs to your ballast, it might be better to have a qualified techinican look at it. Be careful.
