I use a 170gph powerhead from Wal Mart ($18) and it works well. I've used it in 10 and 5g containers. In 5g it gets the water a little hot (~80*) and should be countered with some type of cooling like a chiller or ice packs. In 10g and bigger it doesn't raise temps too much. The more flow the better for the most part.

What kind of air pump are you using? As long as you bought a decent pump rated for a lot of gallons or a specfic hydro pump, it should get enough DO to the roots. Personally I do like powerheads though.

Yep, that's all I use in a ten gallon container (@ 8 gals water) for my Bio-Tubs...week 10 without so much as a reservoir change. Just make sure to check the airhose every so often, to ensure bubbles are bubbling.

Yeah I've also noticed the air hose sometimes needs to be adjusted. I find having the air hose above the powerhead helps keep it going. Also the bottom sometimes sucks in roots and root pieces and needs to be cleaned off. Can't beat the sound though, they make virtually no noise. The air pump sounds like a 1kw ballast.

Jeepers Crimony, I think you have DO covered. You won't need to supplement either of those choices. Seriously, your plants will hyperventilate!

I believe sauce and I both use powerheads in place of other bubbling methods for ease and stealth. I also love it, as NIMBY showed us on OG, because it works perfectly with Hurtback's "BIO" method (Bio-Buckets, Bio-Tubs) that allows explosive growth with very little maintenance: no reservoir changes ever, extremely stable PH (I've spot-checked mine twice in ten weeks, same reservoir water of course!), five minute set-up, and did I mention explosive growth?

explosive as in over 1gpw without anymore than veg till the clone is about 12 or so inches ?? (please please please)

)

Explosive, as in you have a nice little mini-tree going, quicker than all hell.

GPW is dependent on a lot more than the system used. I'm shooting for over 1 GPW (maybe not this inagural grow, but as I get the system dialed in), but my long vege time has thrown all that out of kilter. But hey, what the hell else was I doing? If I can get 600g out of a C24 cabinet each run (using only 3-4 plants), I'll gladly spend the extra month of vege...wouldn't you? High plant count = jail time, and not just on the Federal level.

have you looked at ring compressors like what is used in bait shops to keep the minnows alive ?

Yes I understand that gpw depends on much more than the system - I was just being an idealist I guess haha...

And considering the Veg time situation I guess it would depend on the ratio of time spent vs. harvest weight. If i could harvest 1 lb. every 2 months as opposed to 1.25 lbs. in 3 months than obviously i'd go with the straight flower. And concerning "plant" count...

I've only visited a couple of the states listed on the NormL site but according to the writing used on that site its according how many "Lbs" not "plants" you're found in posession of or cultivating ... Then again i'm no legal major and of course its probably different from state to state but this was also a concern of mine and reviewing the site it only refers to weight not plants. Then again the robot cops would probably weigh the whole plant and try to stick you with that so yeah , plant count is an issue if you have a shitty lawyer who can't prove that only the Buds of the plant are what gets used. Then again you do have the fan leaves that could be used for hash but whatever ...

Best of luck to everyone
