powder mildew...is all my bud wasted?

I have recently harvested two plants which had about 20% of their leaves infected with powder mildew.. the bud seems to not not have mildew on it... how do I know if the bud is affected by the mildew or not? I have only been reading that when people have mildew they cant smoke the bud... is this only true in the worst case scenarios...here is a picture of the plant most affected...of course its not a mildew shot...the bud really looks to not be affected but i know spores are so small i wouldnt be able to see them with my eye anyways.. but i cant help thinking the nice fuzz of trichs on my buds helped deter the mildew?please help! i dont want a lung infection but i want to smoke my hard works worth

this other pic was the first plant harvested... it literally had only a handful of leaves with spots of powder mildew.. i cant help thinking its smokeable.. but when I read posts about mildew i think otherwise!

Hi there. That first nug looks fine, can't tell from the second. The only concern would be in drying and curing, since you don't want the nugs to get affected.Just trim off as much that is affected as you can once you cut them, including leaves with mildew. Keep them in a dry room hanging for like a week at least to be safe, and don't put 'em in plastic until they are bone dry. Next time try a little serenade or sulfur sporadically throughout your grow and the mildew will at least stay at bay or controplled up to the end, just don't spray the buds, leaves only etc..

I've found that slight PM attacks stay on leaves mostly unless the situation is bad and humidity is out of control. I wouldn't worry about burning the nugs, especially if you don't plan to vaporize them, and you can't see much PM on them.
I have burned plenty a nug with small signs of mildew unfortunately. The other day some lame med club had $18 dollar/gram bud with white PM on the leaves, I called the dude out, and he admitted they turned half of it away...I wouldn't buy it, but I wouldn't trash mine, just find the solution for next time.

Anyway, don't throw your bud away unless it looks like the buds inside are affected etc...and even so you can make hash like in ice (Tex idea) that separates the trichs from trash..

Just my opinion on what I do...

Are these outdoor? What do you think caused the PM?

Happy smoking!

if you only had a few spots on the leaves don't worry about it. it should all get trimmed off anyway for drying/curing.

get yourself a sulphur vaporizer for your next run and vape the room out 3 or 4 times in a couple weeks.move your moms and all your clones and anything that's not showing buds yet into the flower room for sulphur time.

this should take care of your problem real good.

these are indoor... I have a pretty good environment temp peaks at 81 if I have to have the door closed and humidity is about 30%.. i've only been growing since september and unfortunately it was the same time I started to get real bad migraines pretty much daily for the next 3 months... anyway not to make excuses but I didnt find the mildew until it i had taken hold...I've looked for serenade but my local grow stores dont stock it... ive tried einstein oil and it seems to help.. but I stopped spraying after the first week of flowering... my setup indoors is designed to have me harvesting at staggered points as I cant be harvested copious amounts at a time...also no go on the sulphur burner because of the insane smell that would produce and give away that I'm up to something...cowabudza you set me quite at ease my man thank you... it doesn't look like the mildew got inside the bud.. strictly leaves...also I will let the lot dry even longer than I was planning... ill keep you updated.. ihave the first small batch dry hopefully by the weekend

cause for PM/mold?

cause for PM/mold?

Hi Spliff

Do know what caused the powdery mildew?

Did you have an oscillating fan in that flower room when you did that grow? I hear people say that you need good air movement and NOT to water before switching to night. 30% RH...can mold live/multiply in that environment?

Look into water curing the pot, this may work, I can't link you to the exact page that I read it but, its on OG. Do a search there's other threads too.

the powder mildew couldve been caused by a bunch of things...but i definitely know that lack of air movement in my veg area coupled with high congestion led to the outbreak...unfortunately I had almost daily migraines when it first was spotted... but I didnt have the time or energy to fix the setup...since then i have added a compact flourescent + a 250W MH for veg and it seems to be clearing up... as well as a 2nd fan and air filter...I'm just hanging the buds to dry...I'm hoping the bud ends up nice...its hard to tell if its affected while its still not completely dry.. there was only a small percentage of nug that i thought was for sure affected by mildew.. i have it drying seperately to see if I can spot the difference

Cool. That's it, your stash will be fine aside from some leaf you may need to trash, make sure there isn't any wet carpeting or anything like that, that you may be overlooking, but more vent holes and fans etc should fix the problem..you'll notice that alot of the pm also kinda "dissapears" in drying, just remember not to vaporize it since it may not kill the spores...
Wash your hands alot too after manipulating that stuff, so you won't get more on the nugs..Have fun..

This powdery mold, I think that is what I have, is it like dry white paint? I had an access issue to one cooler in the center and poured water that spilled, for a few weeks, and found a few buds down inside that had this. When I cleaned the rest out, tossed it to a pile on the side, I think I spread it in the air, as I found starter dots on several of the previously clean ladies in the room today when cleaning. I have increased airflow, cleaned twice, and plan on cutting any new spots this week, does that sound right? Or is this the start of a big problem now that it has started? Thanks.

hey spliff, that is very strange that the mildew settled on the crisp leaves and left the damp spongy bud alone...

How lucky I would say. I woudn't worry too much if it was only on your leaves and in such a small amount.

pow. mil. is systemic to a cutting or plant. Almost impossible to get rid of unless you shut down change scenes and start over from seed. I have found dutch master's "Zone" and "penetrator" together keep it under control in flower and kill it. the mycellium lives in the plants veins and the white powder is the babies and means you already have a chronic infection that is spreading fast (5-7) days reproduction time. and spores linger and hide dormant for months. Good Luck!

next time treat your stuff with Remedy and follow up with some compost tea foliar spray.
