There must be an inexpensive alternative. Last round I built a frame out of 1by4's & stapled 2 layers 6 mill plastic sheeting. Sliding the pots around & such puntured the sheeting & it leaked . I think next time I will cover the plastic with nylon screen to protect the plastic.

Hola, weed

Rookie is right on the money. Pond liner is the way to go. If you are cheap like I am, you could fold an extra large garbage bag up into a shallow box, taping the corners and using that.

Sounds like crap, and it's not fancy, but I'll be the first to tell ya that it works.

If you have a big room, you can even make many individual boxes out of the garabage bags. Inexpensive is the key word here. You can get a box of them for less it costs to buy a couple fluorescent light bulbs. And from a single box of garbage bags and a little tape, you can probably make 100 or 150 little "box" saucers. Maybe more.

Hope this helps :D

Hi mate,

I use a budbox xl and in my current grow (11 plants) I could only fit 9 saucers in.

I found that the bottom of the budbox is easily wrinkled or creased and that some water gets into these creases etc.

Also I guess my room is not 100% flat because the water tends to drift away and starts going under the other saucers.

Because of this, I reckon it could be a problem and could easily help mold (I use a small pot of calcium chloride to keep the humidity down).

The front two plants don't have saucers.

Good luck and I hope you find a cheap alternative :)

Little plastic pot feet (the proper name for the sucers is a Pot Foot) run about $0.76 for me at Wal-Mart, so I'm bit thrown by this question

Me too, plastic trays are cheap also. After a thorough saturation the pots shouldnt be sitting in any saucers or trays anyway

I use saucers from WalMart. The cheap 12" clear plastic ones. I don't want a wet mess in my grow area. That invites disease, mold, etc. I drain the excess from my saucers. I doin't want root problems. It takes time but that's life.

I'm only dealing with 4 plants too. Maybe if I had a grow with 50 plants I would do it differently.

I'm certainly not a rich man, but I have about 35 round 16-18" pot trays that I bought at Home Depot and Lowes for around $4-$5. I have a canvass tarp under that . Those pot trays will hold all the overflow and with the total lack of humidity we have here in the desert, they dry up overnight and add some humidity to the air. I don't consider a $150-$200 investment too expensive as these can be used for 100 grows or more(not that I will live that long.)

Among the things I have done are, line my closet with 6 layers of plastic (worked, but a hassle). I presently grow in $4, 19 gallon Walmart tubs (drilled holes and used the lids as catch trays- works fine). Those black plastic trays that caterers use for veggie/cookie trays- (OK for round pots). Rectangular cake boxes- the clear plastic ones that sheet cakes come in (works OK). I like the clear plastics protector that pre-made pie crusts have (plus it gives me an excuse to make a pie). Or even just buy some aluminum pie tins from the local Dollar Store. Large plastic foam meat trays from "Meat Bonanza" sales. Hit the thrift stores- you often can find interesting, adaptable stuff. There are SO many creative ways to make plant saucers.
