Potash Defficiency

I live on an island, an island with two stores, one of which sells your basic hardware items and the other sells books, magazines and little debbie snacks. I just carried my four girls out here to live with me, all of them are menage-a-twa, because they weren't getting the needed attention. I brought them out here in a skiff and was so consumed with getting them under light I grabbed half the nutes I needed. They've been cleaned up and they're under a 400w CMH for veggin' purposes. Experience says the yellow leaves with brown spots spells straight up Potash Defficiency, problem is I have no potassium!Weather here is super sh*tty and im not going to be able to make it back to civilization for a few days. I was going to use wood ash but since I have not tried it before I was looking for any advice on the situation.

Thank you my friends, as always your input is greatly appriciated.

No digital camera yet, as soon as get one expect a grow diary.

Im not so sure.

Potassium def is characteized by brown margins...the tips ...

not brown spots... and...normally not yellow...

Sounds more like your ph is too low...

causing the yellowing and the spots....

Brown margins and spots were last week, we're into extreeme potassium defficiency now. You may be right, I'm sure my ph is not where it needs to be right now but the ladies are definately starving for nutes. Transplanted them into ProMix with seafood compost and petemoss a little over a month ago, and I am under the impression that they have recieved no nutes since.

I stand corrected Mr.Stinkweed, these girls are just plain hungry! They are potash, nitrogen, phosphorus and every other nute defficient. I think I'm going to have to brave a trip to the mainland. Any info on using hardwood ash as a potassium source would still be helpful thanks.

I do regular gardening and put in some blueberry plants this year...

they recommend using promix and petemoss.... shooting for midish 5's

promix imo is a little low but with the pete thats in the 5's for sure....

I use dolomitic lime with straight promix....

Spots are generally caused by low ph which allows too many micros(metals)

the metals become toxic to plant tissue then become necrotic...

but the low ph also hinders the macro elements like N....

Ive never used wood ash but I know its alkaline and might be just what you need but it can also be toxic... Ive not used it because of better alternatives...

Wood ash does have gobs of K, but its highly alkaline which can be bad. It also has a high salt content which is very bad. I would hesitate to recommend it to an outdoor grower and I wouldn't recommend it at all for an indoor grower. A better source for K would be either composted or burnt potato skins or banana peels.

With your remote location, have you ever considered a compost heap or worm bin?

Well, off I go to calculate the N-P-K rating of Little Debbie Snack Cakes. :)

Only out here for nine months, should be fun. Thanks for the info Weedninja, I actually made it off the island to get nutes so I'm gonna pass on the compost, respectfully. I just have too much else going on out here to compost.
