..... i know that the size of your hole-pot matters greatly .. my question is .. what would be the smallest grow bag i could use to finish plants put outside in may ??
Thanx

Keep it simple; remember that; genetics - lighting - root system - proper nutrient ballance & a correct pH are your keys to bigger yields /
The bigger the root system the bigger yield
Finishing in anything under 3 gal would not be prudent (U -can - but dimished results start to compound) IMHO - You could go the bigest you can get away with / 5-7 gal
The general rule is one gallon of pot to every foot of growth expected! For full season plants use at least a 10 gallon, 15-20 is better, less watering and larger yeilds. I am going with 13 gallon but since I have so many I can't go larger, too much labor involved, lol.
How big around is a 17 gallon pot.... it doest sound like i could be moving it around much...unless of course i take a crane out to the grow site ..=) Really , iam thinking about using large bags and diggin shallow holes to conceal the bags ..Thanx for the replies
Guss, I bought 20 Poly Grow Bags last year. I don't remember the site but do a search on them and you'll find several. Mine are 20 gallon bags. These are very thick and already have the drain holes in them. They are also designed to sit up when full of dirt. I have no idea how many bags of soil they are gonna take but it's gonna be a hell of a lot. No doubt I should have a hell of a root system with these. Good luck bro. Peace. TJ
So your saying that if i want to grow a shorter plant use a 2 or 3 gallon pot .
What happens if its root bound earlier than you want ..or i guess the question is how long can they stay root bound before they die .All these questions revole around the fact that i dont want to have to carry to many bags to the grow site . Iam thinking about using the soiless mix for the majority of the season ... and then cutting off the bottom of the bag and setting on a tilled layer of terra firma ??{ i have no idea what they call soil dig from the ground yourself=)..Again , would it be a better to just take the bag off and plant in the hole with sides roughed up alittle bit ??
Thanx again
Guss
You are asking a question that has too many variables. Impossible to predict the effect as temps/humidity/nutes and watering frequency play a large part, as well as what strain. In general, you can go over some but the plant will suffer the effects and watering with smaller pots must be done much more than larger ones. I don't sympathize with you as I have the same predicament, and you get out what you put in! If you check my gallery you'll see large azz bags and I need to tote them for miles through rough terain, as well as the rest of the equipment. Bottom line how big and how sucessful do you want to be? A 3 gallon will allow 4-5 feet but you're better off getting a larger one now before it gets hot! imo
PS: Ask any lady if size really matters!
Heh, i live in a well populated suburb ..with my grow spot surrounded by busy streets ... A one time late night drop off ,with myself jumping out of my buddies car with a couple bails of promix , or rather two drive bys for two dumps is all wish to do
But iam thinking alittle of the ole natural terra ferma wont hurt the gals
Peace
