POSTING PICTURES

K

Ken Boon

my question is

"what is the best and most secure way to post pictures."

i am no internet hacker, but any info on IP blocking or safety shizzle would be nice and helpful...

Do you post pictures around a mates house, do you post from home with certain security re-routes,???

i am new and PRANGGGG!
:noway:
i am being so careful, i have always been warned off POSTING pics, but i have watched this site and i feel the love and really want to post in the future when i get my arse into gear!

i am just feeling the Paranoia that i should never feel, but this world is fucked and so i am asking this question as SAFETY and SECURITY we all know ROCK!

thanks in advance to anyone taking the time out to help a humble stoner:joint:

When you take a picture, embedded in the file is something called EXIF data.
This is useful in that it allows you to see when a photo was taken, with what camera, etc.
However... If that data isn't stripped, and the photo is of something sensitive/illegal, it can be dangerous.
The serial number of the camera is embedded into the photo, which means that if your camera has been registered, it can be tracked.

Not to worry - there are many free programs that strip ALL exif data from files.
Irfanview is a good example.

When uploading a photo to the ICMag Gallery, I believe that all of the exif data is removed. However, better safe than sorry.

I don't believe that's true. My earliest photos all show EXIF data. Because it's model # but no serial #, I left them up. There are tens of thousands (if not hundreds of thousands) of my model out there. Still, I strip it all now with ImageReady (part of Adobe CS aka Photoshop) which also knocks file size from near 1MB to 100K or less.

I have a very expensive camera and I registered it when I bought it. I just went through my exif data and there was nothing there that was a serial number. Make model, shutter speed etc..

Just keep your house, your face, really good shots of your prints, out of the pictures, and keep your mouth closed, and you will be fine

Icmag good, EXIF data bad. I use Jstrip to remove exif data, all around it's pretty simple to use.

You want the Grow Diaries Forum. Click the blue New Thread button and diary away.

P.S. To add to Dr Dogs list of prohibitions, I'd say no pictures of cars, trucks, motorcycles or pets either. All that stuff adds up.

I'll second Irfanview, it's great for stripping an image file, plus it'll run on even very old very slow machines quite well.

A quick way to strip exif data is to open the pics up with microsoft paint, resize/do whatever then save as.

The EXIF data is removed by icmag and then what, where does it go from there?

Irfanview

Hey Folks

I went and downloaded the Irfanview program with plug-ins as was recomended but I can't find anywhere a way to "strip" pics of the data. It will display the data and I was very happy to see that the camera's serial number was not listed. Can anybody help me with Infanview?

Thanks
