Have some pics I'd like to post but remember reading somewhere that some phones encode GPS information into their images. Does anyone know more about this? Would be a nice gift for the coppers...

The iPhone geotags pictures by default meaning the information on where it was taken is embedded. So it's a no no

And each mobile phone in the last 8yrs has a unique carrier #, which may or may not be embedded in the exiff or other metadata. I would at least xfer them to your PC and strip the metadata, then youre good to go.

Hello.

All blackberrys also GeoTag by default and some high end cameras now do it too.

Use a good jpg file cleaner/editor like Jpeg cleaner or Gimp or copy/paste the image from MSPaint. Simplest windows approach is to save image as a Windows (.bmp) Bitmap then re-import. Do whatever works to keep you safe.

Alternatively, remove image and camera data and put in your own eg: "Orange County Police Dept." ;-)

also note that vista has a tool to strip the images of exif data.

Properties > Details > Remove Properties and Personal Information ... then select the things you want to delete or just delete all...
