hoosierdaddy, have you had problems with that timer? I had one but it didn't work so i returned it for one like in the link from kp^.
It hasn't missed a beat.
The good thing about a digital is that if/when your incoming power goes out, the battery backup will keep the memory and it will not lose it's place in time. So, with a cheap battery powered emergency light, you could effectively save your plants any delay in progress, even with multiple outages.
And unlike mechanical timers, you can effectively take the flip into flower by stages during a weeks period. ie..18/6, 17/7, 16/8, 15/9, 14/10, 13/11, 12/12....
Whether this is beneficial or not, I cannot say for certain, but it IS how mother nature does it.
It also gives you a precise clock in your grow area.

The second from the left in the timer box is my digital timer.
It can cope with 2 channels with 7 on/off marks per day and interval timing.
This timer setup just needs adding contactors to be bullet proof for pretty much as many lights I can afford.
The parts on the pic, from the left, are: 1. ILVA 5-step transformator for fans. 2. 24A contactor (for about 4x600w hps) 3. Timer 4. circuit breaker 5. RCCB

Went the digital route from HydroFarm and Sunleaves but after 14 months BOTH went deader than a hammer due to an internal battery that went dead. Crappy part is that the battery is soldered in and a bitch to get to even if I did trust replacing them. BTW both units are identical down to the model number, just packaged differently.
I'd like to go digital again, especially like kelimmo has set up, but until the cheapos include a replaceable battery I'm staying analog.

The Intermatic model HB88RC digital that I use (shown above) comes with a AA battery and is replaceable. $20 at Lowes.

Those are like the ones I was talking about with the internal battery. Mine were Sundial 2's. They worked fine until I left them unplugged for awhile and when I went to use them again they were useless.
Another one that I use on my espresso machine has run flawlessly for over a year but its been plugged in the entire time.

i second this timer i just bought it today and it is bad ass... plan on buying another one when i get a bigger cab... was $19.97 before tax, after tax 21 something...

^^^ I've had that same timer for about 2 years now and it's still working. I've also been having problems with batteries dying then the timer becomes worthless. So far this one has worked longer than the other digital ones I've tried.
