love it!! i have my jbd 14" that i bought in 96. was recently offered 1500.00 for it!!!!!!! i was told that mine is an original 14" worked by the man himself, jerome (i believe his actuall name is jerry or jordan, be to long and cant remember). i still love this piece and is def the nicest worked tube i have. i also have 2 other later edition jbd, but they were blown by his workers (not the same value).My pride and joy, is this 12 year old Jerome Baker.

Bongs like original JBDs are so highly valued, because you can't buy them anymore. Like everything else, scarcity drives up the value.

right you are bobby. the original bakers are the ones worth some good money from what i was told. i was shocked when the people at the head shop saw the piece i have and told me how much it was worth. i knew they were valuable, but never thought that valuable! worth more than all my toro's and roor's!!!

Its a particular style of art that has collectors and the original artist is more or less retired.
plus, when you have a painting on a wall, the only threats to it are theft and fire... maybe water or a little kid drawing on it. Pretty rare.
when you have a JBD you drop it, it gets stolen, the cops take it, you give it to a friend to use who moves down south, etc. a lot more ways to lose the artwork here
hella fools were introduced to MJ by a JBD (i was), or a JBD was the pinacle of smoking accessory about 10+ years ago.
you look back and you want a JBD like from the good ol' days and you just can't find it.
they got crap that says JBD but it doesn't have anywhere near the amount of work put into it that it used to

Pretty much just nostalgia. They were super popular a decade ago. Hard to explain exactly how popular. Its like how popular Roor used to be, but at a fraction of the price so lots of people had them.
During '01 there was a bad drought going on for years in Mexicos main growing regions. The price of pot shot up. Lots of times you couldn't find it and when you did it was expensive and crappy. After 9-11 it got even worse. LOTS of people started growing indoors. 9/11 really kicked off the domestic pot industry. It must've doubled in size in a couple years. Plus Overgrow came out.
Dank got VERY popular and that was the first time in history I ever remember there being indoor weed but no shwag around town.
Lots of people smoked dank for the first time out of a JBD and it was a pinnacle moment for them. A bong rip of dank vs regs is mind blowing.
Ten years later and many guys are still growing and have cash to spare. They got toro's, sheldons, etc. But they don't have a JBD like they started on.
My old bub. Not fancy or anything, or worth money as a collectors item. But it has a lot of sentimental value to me. This was my first glass water pipe. Over a decade old, paper thin, and a late 90's design.
I still have it but I only break it out for special occasions with friends. Other than that it stays in a padded case. It means too much to me to use it and break it. I hope to have it in twenty or thirty more years.
