Possible to use PC fans with a retail carbon scrubber?

Is it possible to use PC fans with a retail carbon scrubber or will I just be disappointed? My cab is very small but its to the point where I'd like a scrubber along with my vaportronic discs. A big vortex, can-fan etc would take up a lot of space and noise is a concern. I know if you put a couple PC fans on top of each other they can create some pressure. I don't need much air flow to keep things cool as I use CFL's and one 120mm PC fan at half power is doing a fine job.

At the very least, what's the smallest retail scrubber you know of and I can take it from there..

That small?
Search here and build one for cheap, under "DIY Carbon Scrubbers"....

Well, I gave the DIY route a try once. Didn't work so well. Guess I'm not much of a handyman. Paying money to have a retail one is also worth the peace of mind.

Another bonus will be being able to go lighter on the vaportronic discs.....at the moment the room has a strong odor of classic neutral scent :)

Hey hemp, I haven't ever used a commercial filter, but if you look at the specs of the computer fans, there are some that outperform the smaller popular fans like the S&Ps and Whisper fans that push through filters well enough. Well, they outperform in the amount of cooling going on, but NOT in noise. They are super loud. You can't have them beside you in a computer or you'd go deaf very soon - they're for servers etc. So if you need to pump the air silently, you may be better off with a different fan.

The main thing to look at in a computer fan pushing through a filter or serious bends is the "pressure" rating and it's normally in mm-h2o. I looked at buying a commercial filter a while back and I'm sure they mentioned some pressure figures as to how much was needed to get through their filters. You can convert between mmh2o and Pa or inches-h2o easily online. Don't just match your pc fan CFMs to your filter's CFM rating as that is indeed for "real" fans designed for this shit. You need that high pressure rating before it's gonna push any air through any carbon, and then it's happy times. Lots more info in the sig thread bro. G'luck.

In a cabinet, cycle the volume of air 1x/minute for best results.
Easy enough to do,with an eight ft3 cabinet....
In a larger room, the closer you are to scrubbing the total room's air volume once a minute, the better off you are.
Generally in a larger grow, you scrub the room air once every 2-3 minutes to keep smell non-existent.
A scrubber lasts about 4 months running 24/7,then you can take it outside, rinse it with a high-pressure water hose, then thump it around to re-settle the carbon, rinse and reuse (or throw it out at this point,I do) the pre-filter.
At this point, you get about another eight weeks out of it before it shits and you replace the carbon,or the whole filter.
When a correctly installed scrubber is working,it kills ALL the smell, unless you're in the plants.
No "masking agents" like Ona or Vaportek cartridges come remotely close, only ozone can compete-and that's nasty shit I avoid.

Cheers!

Hey Rez, I thought I read that all you used was the vaportek cartridges(w/ a small fan blowing through it) in a sealed room and it worked great alone. Or was I dreaming? :joint:
