portable AC unit versus watts

What size/power of a portable AC unit would I need to neutralize a 1,000 watt hps that's air cooled in a 15ftx15ftx15ft room?

Or whatever way you can best give me the estimate would be sweet too :biglaugh:

I'd go with an 8K or 10K. The 5K will end up running 24/7 just to try to keep the temps in check (which it never will), but the 8K or 10K should be able to cycle on and off which will help keep it from freezing up.

The rule of thumb for cooling is 3500btu's for every 1K of light + 20 btu's per square foot (4500btus for 225 sq/ft) = 8000.

If humidity is a problem in your area, then go with the 8K since it'll run almost 100% of the time and dehumidify the area better. If humidity is low in your area, go with the 10K so that it won't be pulling moisture out of the are all the time.

What do the temps get up to in summer in your area (max)?

If the area is poorly insulated, I'd definitely go with the 10K...

mtf hit it pretty much on the head, however, if all you have is 1k and its aircooled in that room, you really shouldnt have a problem with temps if that rooms ambient temp were in the 70s before you add the light. what room do you have that has 15 ft ceilings and why arent you doing you 5k dreams anymore? jk obviously you are just a begginer and need some help, feel free to pm me and ask some questions if you are serious about growing... instead of posting a new thread everyday. use the search function and read a lot before you jump into a grow and everything should work out fine, and remember kiss, keep it simple stupid.. peace

yeah i have a 10k portable with just a 1k hps in a 150sqft room and it runs 24/7 tryina keep up :/ though a full a/c still, it is one of those self-evaporating units (sunpentown) that only uses 660w insteada 1100w... it also unfortunately means this works by that rule of thumb at less than a 6500btu a/c's capacity! worthless... i need to finish puttin this homemade aircooled tube on the 1k hehe peace n green thumbs all
