worth the watch^ spend maybe 20-30 bucks at home depot, and a 90 micron screen

90 microns is too fine. We use a 150 micron silk screen or stainless mesh for the first pass.

I'll bet that here in the northwest we have larger glandular trichomes than in some parts of the country, thus necessitating larger mesh screens...

Trichomes do come in a range of sizes. I like good dry sieve, but mostly use oil concentrates, so I usually re-sieve the 150 micron at 110 and 50, to take the prime cut out of the middle and call it good.

If you are playing with more than one strain, and are a serious dry siever, you need a range of sieve sizes, so we have always just built our own.

Now days, we use a Grinning Reaper for our first cut, and hand sieve to refine for for bragging rights.

88 Microns/170 Mesh for medium sized resin glands, but not for large plant debris.

Bubblebags have shown us exactly what the range of trichomes are, they range from as small as 10 or 20 micron ~ 130+ micron depending on when the plant was harvested and the strain being dry sfited....but a majority of the trichomes of most strains at maturity fall within the range of 50 ~ 110 micron in size, this range of trichomes offers the best high, a range trichomes between 70 ~ 110 micron in size has a better high (in my opinion, but hey, it's all good!)

When dry sifting with quantity in mind I recommend using a mesh that has holes larger than the largest trichomes, but not so large that too much contaminant falls through as well....most use 140, 150 or 160 micron mesh which is roughly equivalent to 100 (USA lines per inch) Mesh.

If you use an 88 micron mesh you would miss out on a large part of the yield..do you mean 188 micron mesh?

50 microns will yield very small debris and little resin. Most folks are happy with their 70 µm or in standardized form 74µm (200 mesh) as well as 90 µm or in the common measurement of 88µm (170 Mesh), respectively these sizes lend themselves well to small and medium resin glands. The LPI and openings in bolt or monofilament, nylon, poly and so on as well as the screen printing industry's standards are all over the place. If you think of tshirts generally speaking the raw product used to print on them is coming from China and they like to offer upwards of 3 different opening sizes per Mesh, because different screen printers use all manner of inks some viscous, some more runny. Some resellers even like to mess with an arbitrary scale outside of standardization calling 94µm a 170 Mesh or 110µm a 140 Mesh or sometimes 150 Mesh, but this is probably pertaining to openings as needed for sieving needs and less about LPI fetish among screen printers. Material comes into play as well it would seem brass openings in screens differ from stainless steel. So the whole thing is a mess, and that's okay its goofy because we have different industries utilizing the same products for quite varied purposes. People have argued the worth of large "adult" glands and potency in comparison to immature "small" heads for aeons and no screen size will remedy those types of bias.

Regarding 88µm, some consider it grade A, but depending on your method it seems a majority waffle between 70µm and 90µm as their target. However, I'm one of those who feels if you can get a clean pull with any method through 110µm (160 Mesh) and harvest 99.9% pure large heads you might find something magical in your lungs not soon after, doing that is part of the artform though. I applaud you all even those of you who harvest and partake in minus 50µm conditions. You are all beautiful, everyone under the sun because you are all famous to me, #1 everyone :jump:
