PM hell...solved but plant has side effects

I'm currently growing Sour Diesel, GDP, Purps, Annunaki, Hindu Skunk, and Purple Kush all in the same room.

About 10 days into flowering I noticed a semi-serious PM infection. It seemed to be affecting the Diesel and GDP the most for some reason, whilst the rest of the strains were pretty resistant. The annunaki and skunk are near PM free, but started to get small patches late in flower.

I began using neem oil to spot shot the problem areas but eventually it became overwhelming to the point where I couldn't keep up, and I am in day 45 so I didn't want to soak the buds in the nasty smelling oil.

I read on here to use the homemade baking soda/dishsoap solution. It got so bad that I had to take my chances or lose the crop, so I doused the mofos last night before lights off.

I woke up this morning to about 90% of the PM completely gone. WOW! I would recommend this solution to anyone and everyone as it is cheap and VERY effective.

The problem I noticed is that I was running about a 40% orange to white hair ratio last night, and now about 90% of the hairs are whitherd and orange.

Could this be a result of the solution being too harsh on the hairs, and is it a serious problem? The buds still look very healthy and the solution didn't seem to damage the leaves at all. I just hope I didn't screw things up...they are such beautiful monsters :joint:

Side note: I'm never growing that damn diesel again. Talk about a lanky, low yielding, finicky, long flowering, non-resistant plant. I know how dank it is, but I don't see a reason to grow this crap over my hindu skunk or GDP which have massive colas and great structure. I see why they can charge so much for the damn strain....

Thanks for your help guys. Peace. :joint:

yes the baking soda burns the pistils. I tried it but didn't like the burning.

I've since moved to a sulfur burner and its by far the best method for a permanent fix. Can't use it to late in flower but if you have mothers then use the burner. See my sig for a DIY model.

Next time.........if your late in flower..........just spray with high PHed plain water. (like 9.0) It will do the same thing and won't burn the pistils as long as you spray when lights are out. Maybe a couple hours before lights on and then run fans to dry the plants before the light come on. Temporary fix though.

If you've seen it on the leaves that means it INSIDE the plant cells. It will come back.

Wanna kill it for good?.......... Burn Sulfur !!

Funny, I just read your DIY thread after I posted this. Looks like I got a project this weekend!

Definitely gunna go the safe route and dip the mothers in some mixes suggested in the forums, then I'm gunna do the sulfur burner for sure as preventative measure from now on.

I can't believe in my 6 years of growing I've never had PM until now. I'm beginning to think the last set of clones I got had some spores on them (damn clinics).

So burning the pistils isn't necessarily horrible right? Just gotta use better judgement on when to harvest.

I will probably just use very high PH water from now until harvest.

Thanks for your prompt advice!

Hey no problem man.

IMO the burnt pistils make the bud look darker is all. If you already had brown ones then I assume your fairly late in flower anyway. It won't hurt the final quality as far as potency or anything like that. Just appearance is all. But not bad. It will look as if you took the plants later and had more brown pistils.

Have fun building and lest see what ya got when yur done. By the way......The sulfur doesn't burn the white pistils.

Just an FYI, PM grows where it CAN grow. Mildew doesnt grow in the desert, know what I mean? (Some strain probably does, just bc its biology after all =) but it's a simple analogy) I used to have PM problems before, now I just increase the air flow and make sure to cover any exposed humidity source. I might try that sulfur burner in the future though... I love DIY'ers!

Thanks again guys.

I was doing some research on the effects smoking mildew might have.

Everyone seems to claim it's BAD BAD BAD...and I couldn't find any scientific backing....until I found this.

SCARY SHIT! I once hooked some kush off a friend which had white shit all over it and totally fucked with my lungs. I smoked it anyways (noob mistake) and had persistant lung issues for the next 6 months. Hopefully I don't have permanent damage to my lungs.

I notice that I get PM issues when the plants are falling over on each other or leaves are sitting on other leaves etc... Which kind of sucks since you're excited to see them so big but then you can't really access the plants completely if you net them up.

As far as I know. I pretty much just use my sulfur burner. I stopped burning three weeks into flower and am now 7 weeks in and have spotted some in a corner on (1) plant. I pulled all the leaves and will probably burn sulfur tomorrow. Not really what I want to do but my strains go 9-10 weeks so my option is pull them early before it spreads, or burn sulfur and then just hope that over the next 3 weeks it doesn't leave residue on the buds or leaves. I think next time I'll burn sulfur until the 5th week of flower.

I wouldn't want to share PM with anyone. Especially a person with a weakened immune system.
