This poor fat bastard that calls himself the FallenBuddha just found out back surgery is imminent. Apparently, according to my doc's interpretation of an mri says i have had 3 ruptured discs for a while, fucking high threshold for pain, and that i am looking at what is called a discetomy. this procedure is done under a general anesthesia. now this fact is what has me scared, i had an uncle who was put under for a tonsilectomy when he was a year older than i am now and never woke up. honestly i am scared shitless. please help assuage my fears.

peace -fb

I Can't offer anything on the anesthesia fear but I will say that I wish you the best of luck on your procedure. If it means anything I have witnessed several open heart surgery patients setting up and joking the very next day. Be well bro and keep your chin up.

Take Care

I have never been under general, I find the thought very scary too. But somethings are necessary and we have to be brave. Many more are put under and come out fine than don't.

I hope all comes out good for you, I'll send prayers and good vibes.

I have been under general anethesia. I'm sorry to hear what happened to your uncle :badday: But I'm sure you will be fine, those type of incidents are not too common. And after your recovery I'm sure you will feel much better than you have in a long time! Good luck buddy!!

Good vibes comin' your way,FB. Can you feel 'em?
Dont worry everything will be fine and you will be back up enjoying buds in no time.
Like Mrs Babba said, you will feel so much better after you recover from surgery. Just remember to take it easy after you recover. Its easy to overdo when you start to feel better.
I have been under a few times,3 ruptured discs in my neck, rotator cuff in my right shoulder, even shrapnel removal from my neck and scalp with eye surgery at the same time. All good now, except my shoulder which is about as good as it will ever be.
Take care and let us know how you do.
Make sure to have some potent buds ready for pain relief. :joint:

No hard feeelings, but if you're fat, try to loose weight. Your back problems probably have something to do with that, and you'll see that the majority of your health problems will disappear if you reach your ideal weight (and eat healthy).

It sucks hearing it from a guy with a paperbag over his head on the internet, but it's the truth.

Talk to your anesthesiologist beforehand. Let him (or her) know about the anesthesia issues with your uncle. Forewarned is forearmed. Also, find out exactly what anesthetics are used. I highly recommend sevoflurane. I'ts pricier, but safer, with a calmer, faster recovery and little or no nausea. Good luck and best wishes for a speedy recovery!

good thoughts!

also ask about the smallest tube possible for your throat...that can be more of a pain than the procedure itself! :yoinks:

good luck!

Best of luck fallen buddah..
I am still not going to my radiation treatments, but it looks good for SSI Soon, which will enable me to resume treatments of radiation.
Otherwise my doctor predicts the cancer will come back in five years.I sought first the kingdom of heaven within. Deep reflection and thoughts of dying collide, there is no "easy answer". Just trust to His will, and 'get her done.'
Don't put her aside like dumb ol tiedye did.Sometimes "we gotta do what we gotta do"
You just take her easy and set your fears aside.
We will pray for ya out here..

I have been under general and local anastetic (sp)?
general is usually better for long operations ...I know someone who had local for heart surgery ... they were awake !
I think I'd rather be under ...anyway ...best of luck FB ... I know you'll make it ....rest and recover well

yes fallenbuddha, there has been a revolution in anaesthesiological techniques, so i really wouldn't worry about the operation itself......just concentrate on the recovery process, eat lots of ice cream, and know that you have my positive vibes....

:ying: kind regards and much love from your friend the guineapig :ying:

Mom's hell

Mom's hell

My dear mother
Has had like 5 back surgeries in 15 years. They started in on her a long time back before all this new titanium teck was around. They screwed her up.
She is like two inches shorter than she was before osteoporosis hit her...
Fallenbuddah be careful your doctor has a successful track record.
I am not trying to be a harbringer of bad news, but to warn you to excersise caution. IF they screw it up they can't fix it.
Back surgeries that go right the first time are successful.
If they screw it up the first time it's hell...Mom lays around in pain most of the time.
She was also pretty old when they started in on her surgeries.
She has had all her organs out and laying around her chest like twice...
Be glad your surgery sounds minor, and a local means you will be able to keep an eye on them- so they don't screw ya up...
I have had total anesthetic surgery, and it's scary waking up after the last thing you hear is nurses giggling. Makes ya wonder just WTF went on while you were out. And that's scary...
No matter how you look at it buddah, it's a scary situation when we let doctors experiment on us...The greek word pharmakhia means both pharmacy and sorcery....
Good luck and health to ya...
If you need someone to water for ya holler...Take it easy on your recovery, IOW.

we're sure you'll do well . . .

just remember to follow doc's orders after the procedure . . . and to be diligent about your physical therapy during recovery . . . that's the path . . .

Hey there, I wanted to tell you good luck and also give you a few tips for the recovery process. I had back surgery in March, and they replaced two discs with cages and rods and screws. I was scared to death I was not going to wake up. I woke up just fine, and you will to. Recovery is the very very hard part my friend. Prepare yourself for a hard ride.

When you get home you are not going to be able to Bend, Lift, or Twist for a time period. Here are some things we did to make it easier on me.

I got my husband up to speed on my plants, he had to take care of them the first week. I was in the hospital five days, and the first four I did not care about anything outside of pain meds.

We raised everything I needed up to where I could reach it standing straight up. you cannot bend at all!

We got one of those "Grabbers" from a drug store. If you are home alone and drop something that you need, you really cannot bend over and get it off the floor. The grabber will come in handy for that.

Walk as much as possible. Recovery will take longer if you lay around in bed. The more I am active, the more I can do.

I needed somebody to water my plants. A gallon of water is too heavy at first.

Pm me if you have any more questions. I'm sure I left plenty of advice out.

Good luck!

hey FB. Best of luck to you on the back surgery. I know that's gotta be some scary shit. First off, back pain is hellifying. Secondly, medical science's record with the back has been a bit sketchy.
I've had back problems since the early 90s when I originally Fd up my back on a slippery restaurant kitchen floor. Hasn't been the same since.
I just completed 12 weeks of physical therapy. I've seen progress, but have had a couple backslides as well, so I'm still having problems. I'm going to the doc again in about an hour from now to see what they think, check my other options (I know surgery will be one of them, and I aint too into the idea). we'll see how it goes.
I wouldn't wish back problems on my worst enemy. I wish you much relief from pain.
Peace, bro.
