Hey guys, your help would be greatly appreciated here! I was tying branches down on my favorite tree today and accidentally split it a little bit twice.. I got one of them tied up so tight it's sealed, and the other I couldn't quite fix as well. I'm just worried I fucked something up or what's the best way to handle this situation? You can take wax and melt it over the wound, or you can affix it with a bit of tape to help keep it moist and repair faster. I like painters tape or masking tape, personally, however they do make a nursery tape specifically for such purposes, it's more like a green paper velcro type of deal...
You could also look at a more specific product, called grafting wax, which is used to seal the wounds made when grafting fruit trees - but again, candle wax works, but not quite as well...but most people have candles around to melt, so thinking along the lines of ease.
Just make sure you get the branch as close back to it's original position...you might need some pipe cleaners to help keep it in that position depending on size / weight of the branch, but I think you get the basic idea at this point...

Fine...sure...best...no. The longer the wound is exposed, especially outdoors, the great the chance of some sort of degradation / infection / pest infestation, etc.
