Please help me with tweaking my current room for odor protection.

I have some questions that I am hoping the experts here might be able to help me with.

I have included a picture that shows the general setup of my room I am growing in.

The light is a 400 Watt MH during veg, 400 Watt HPS during flowering.

I have the vortex running on low from the speed controller so I hope it's not pulling over 200 CFM through the CAN 33 filter. (The Can 33 is rated up to 200CFM)

Temps tend to hover around 79-80 degrees in the room when the light is on.

The room is as air tight as possible other then the 2 - 6" air intake holes and a small crack under the door. The air intake holes has air that is cooler during the winter coming in, so I am guessing the temp will drop from 79-80 to 60-70 when the lights are off.

I have a 200 CFM centrifugal fan mounted above the 2 - 6" air intakes hooked up to one of them to bring cool air. When it's on, the other 6" intake next to it is still bringing air in when the door to the room is shut. (I put a lighter next to it and it blows it outward, it does not suck the flame)

I normally only have around max 3 plants in flowering. (Normally 1 to 2) Last time I flowered there were a couple times where the room next to the grow room had a faint very obvious odor.

I am now going to be having people over at the house each day and it is critical that no one ever smells ANYTHING.

So I went and bought another Can 33 filter and plan on putting it sitting free standing in the room with a 220 CFM fan sitting on top of it.

I am also going to put one of those Vaportronic wall mounted units in the room next door that the grow room exhausts into. (1 disc per month, set on the lowest setting possible, I don't want the house to smell of cleaner)

The dimensions to the room are: 80 inches long, 93 inches tall, and 72 inches wide.

My questions are this:

1. What can I do to tweak what I have to get the best possible odor protection.

2. Is having the additional free standing can 33 I added in the room with a 220 CFM centrifugal fan stuck on top of it really helping me at all? (I don't have that in the picture) And I have not had anything smelly yet in there to even see if the free standing Can 33 will add any additional help.

3. Where would others sugest with my setup to put the free standing Can33 for best use, the exhaust one is at the very top of the room on the cealing directly above the light.

3. With this configuration (room dimensions included) is there a chance I might have air leaking other places? It seems as though I have enough negative preasure (I think that is what it is called) Since the other 6" air intake is still bringing air in right?

4. Did I make a mistake with my room dimensions by buying a can 33 to exhaust with that is rated up to 200 CFM? Is that enough filter for that sized room? I normally only grow a couple of plants, just sometimes wind up with smelly ones.

Thanks for any help guys!

First, let me say I don't know crap. But it seems like a combo of things. Rounding up, 7'x8'x6' equals aprox. 336 cubic feet. Vortex 449cfm fan. 200cfm Can33 filter. To properly filter the air, I believe, you need to filter the air 2x or 3x a minute. That's 672 or 1008 cfm. The numbers don't match up. You are using a 400watt light. What you seem to have, IMHO, is too much room. You are exchanging air from a much larger area than your light covers. Any chance you can close off some of that area? Make it into a clone/mom area, seperate from main grow area?
Also your filter should match your fan. At least that's my stoner recollection.
If I've given any bad info, sing out. But that's my take.

Thanks, I think I understand. I do have much more space in this room that I am not using. To start with I think I have the capability of dividing the room in half. So it would wind up being around 168 Cubic feet I believe based on what you list above.

I need to figure out a good way to cut the room in half with a simple wall. I see this RMAX looks to be pretty popular, just don't know how I would create an entry way in it that can be opened and closed.

Ok..I'm awake. You can use 2x4's and plastic and duct tape...instant wall. But I do believe you need to cut out some dead space. You got what others wish they had...room. But, I honestly feel, you need to downsize to match what you already have on hand. Unless you like spending money.

I'm assuming you have a 6" vortex. Return the 2nd can33 and get a can50 or 66, combine with the vortex and run non stop when lights are on. Take intake fan and attach to can33 (making it a nightime exhaust, you don't need the big fan when the lights are off) and run non stop during dark. You don't need an intake fan...this setup will maintain a constant negative pressure in your room. If air is being drawn into the room, smell can't get out.

I agree with Albert.

You gotta get the pressure negative in that grow room. When you said it was blowing out of that hole, I said no no.

As Albert said, just use passive intake get get that room neg pressure. It won't smell then.

OK thanks for the tips, I am going to go the route of adding the Can 50 to better match the vortex and I like the idea of using the lower powered fan and scrubber when lights are off. Saves on electricity also a bit then.

I have already figured out a decent way to section the room in half to only have to take care of around 160+ cubic feet of space instead of double that. (I added a track and am going to use a couple sheets of that RMAX 1/2" solid light insulation) Just slide it open and closed for maint. It's not light proof, or leak proof but I am guessing the negative preassure will just pull in air from the small leaks.

Thanks again for all the great tips.
