here's my situation...Im in a cold climate at the moment. Temperatures outside have been around 5 to 15 degrees at night, and in the 10's to 20's during the day. My babies are inside, under 600 watt HPS. I can keep the temps under control with warmth from the light, but with the light off, i have to run a small space heater or else it would be too cold in the room. all of this makes for a VERY low humidity level in my room. My gauge says the humidity is around 25 percent...sometimes lower. I've noticed the leaves have been droopy. What can i do to get that humidity up around where i need to be...say around 40 to 60 percent?

stats: 10 WW babies in soil. they are 3 weeks old, on the 18/6 cycle. room is about 10'L x 15'W x 6'H (not a big room)
temps range around 70 to 75, and humidity never gets above 30 percent. oscillating fan runs most of the day for air circulation. small heater at night for warmth

please help me before they die. thank you.

Put a couple containers of water inside the room. If you can, also put one near the heater. This will help a little bit. During the day I will pour water right onto the table and let it evaporate....

I've had a very similar experience....couldnt get my RH over 35%.

Try an ultrasonic water fogger. Works great for a small space, and you can use a timer to control how often it runs for.

I tried a cheap humidifier(I say this because you might have a better experience with a more expensive unit), as well as placing buckets of water in the grow space...didn't raise the rh at all. Now with the fogger my RH is around 60%, depending on ventalation.

Good luck to you!

What exactly happens to the plants when the humidity is low? I always thought you didn't want the humidity high because of bud rot/mold?

You dont want it high in flower,in veg I've found 60-70%RH to be better than 50% hands down.I use cool mist humdifier in veg when the RH drops below 50% RH,its important to get one with a visable mist or like stated before,it wont do much. It'll raise my RH 10-15% easilt but you may need a couple in your situation. The fogger sounds like a greatthing I dont know what it is though

yea what is the effects of low humidity??? i mean i really dont htink it would be a big problem...especially if your feeding regularly. The only adverse effect is that water will evaporate faster? wich is easily fixed wit misting, or fogging like the earlier posts mentioned. I really dont hink its a problem you need to be fixated on.

where i live my average RH is 15-20% if its higher its either raining or cloudy outside. my plants suffer no ill effects from it

In a nutshell,it has to do with transpiration. The dryer the climate, the more the plant transpires to contol internal temperature, the higher humidity in veg causes much less transpiration to occur resulting in more lush healthy growth.20% humidity in veg is too low,you would see a difference in growth rates and foliage if you could increase that quite a bit.Foggers and cold air humidifiers besides providing the plant with an environment where it doesn't have to transpire as much, are great natural spidermite repellents also.I havent had them in veg for some time now and I used to get them not often but once in awhile

I soak bath towels in water and let the occislating fan blow through the towels, it seems to help a bit.

Ive been struggling to raise RH over 50%, rh outside and in apt is arouind 25-30%

they are only about 1-2 inches tall so i moved the flouro into the bathroom, and turned the shower on, close door, came back in 5-10, RH was 85%, lol, so looks like I just have to run the shower for a cpl minutes every bit or so. will be interesting to see if i notice a change in growth, been checking them every 2 hours for the last 2 days, they are my babies!

ive used a tray with water with a bunch of perlite in it. the perlite will wick the water so it evaporates faster resulting in a higher RH. if you have an extra air pump lying around, bubble a bucket of water too that should raise it.

same here... my Rh is around 20-35% and my plants are growing just fine...I think keeping humidity high during veg really isn't as important as keeping it low during budding to prevent rot.

i picked up a mist humidifier, it raised rh from 20 to 35-40, wooo...not.
