Please check out this reflector - LUMEN-MAX Reflector

Looks like it would be about the same as a parabolic.

I've heard that the german aluminum works very well though. It's what PL uses in their reflectors. (And many others as well)

To me, as long as it's not mirrored, it's worth a shot. I wouldn't spend $120 dollars on it, that's for sure. Check on ebay, you'll find similar reflectors at half that price that will probably work just as good. I would stay away from the mirrored stuff though.

To cut a cool tube in might be a bit of a waste of a good reflector as you would be cutting away a large portion of the extra surface area that you're paying for. Light would still be lost out the ends. If you could get it into an air cooled hood though, that would be worth it.

Best of luck. Just my two cents.

There are newer Lumen Max reflectors that are air cooled. I have yet to see someone selling them but they are nice. A little pricey but they are aircoolable and have great light spreading capabilities. They are called the Lumen Max 2 and the Lumen Max 3.

Thank you for your replies. This noob is right back where I started.. :wallbash:

If I would want to have a HVAC guy make one, is there a DIY plan that anyone would recommend? I think I would most want to cut another two flanges into the hydro hut sides and have a 120mm pc fan that would vent the cooltube in the reflector and then have a vortex 4" pulling from the filter so the filter would be up top before the fan and inside the hut. I will have to have the exhaust ducting travel approx 50 ft. to the chimney top. That is my only venting option. I intend to spend for a premade carbon filter because I am not that handy and the smell factor is THE MOST important part of all for me. If there is no smell then anything is possible!:canabis: I am leaning toward this filter: http://www.bghydro.com/BGH/Itemdesc.asp?ic=AOCDBDFS02&eq=&Tp=

What size reflector would you guys go with for the 3ft. x 3ft. hut? One other question, how to best do the hanging of the lamp and reflector and what material would be safest (strong, fireproof, and easily adjustable).

Thanks!

SpacedCWBY, what do you mean by "mirrored"? Flat, non-textured reflective surfaces?

Like the reflector that I have, because I'm cheap and haven't bought a new one yet, is a mirror like surface. When you look at it, you see just a direct reflection of the bulb. Where as with textured or pebbled surface reflectors seem to reflect it in many different directions. When the bulb is on, you really cannot look into it without seeing light. When the bulb is on with the mirrored, I can see the dark spots that are reflected on the surface - look right at it and not be blinded.

Call me crazy, and sorry, yes, I ramble most of the time, but it just seems to me that the one you cannot see dark spots in would be the one you'd want.

Am I wrong about this? Please correct me if I am, and I'll save money and not have to buy another reflector.

Happy New Year!

No that sounds about right... just wasn't 100% sure on what you meant by "mirrored" as I haven't seen too many like that. Actually, Hydrofarm reflectors have smooth (non-textured) reflective surfaces but I think they have a "diffused" finish rather than a polished finish.
