Plastic Seed Trays

Ok so here is a question, I use those 24 pack black seed trays to start seeds. And when I go to transplant and I attempt to dump or tap the plant out, it seems that the roots have not fully grew through the entire plastic tray and half the dirt falls off the root and its a huge mess. So do I wait until the seeding has completely root bound itself or do I do something else that I am not thinking of? Looking for everyones input because I cant be the only one that's had this issue. I really dont want to start seeds in a 3 gallon grow bag, the water will take a week to dry out and I am sure this will cause other problems with the seedling like root rot. Please let me know what you guys do!

those seed trays are way too small for starting seeds in my opinion. i like 12 to 16 ounce party cups for starting seeds so the seedling can stay in one container until the stem starts to firm up that way you don't have to transplant them while they are so delicate.

right now i am using 16 ounce cups and they are about perfect to get a seedling to the firm stem stage and i use the slightly smaller cups for clones. just poke some holes in the bottom and put a tray under it.

i use em all the time. wait till roots come out bottom a bit.very lightly watering em helps em slide out for me . tilt upside down or sideways and pop em out .

I use those trays for clones but instead of using dirt I use root riot cubes which fit in nicely. Then I just take the cube out when I am ready and put it in my medium.

Hay core, The trays i belive your talking about work better if you use the dirt pucks that hydrate with water.that way you just pull the puck that has swollen up with mesh sideing.the flat kind are used mostly for rooting cuttings and cup contaners.

I have heard mixed results with those peat pellets, I am not sure if i should use them or not. What do you think of them?
