plastic foil in the ground

Hello everebody, I have noticed that a lot of growers uses plastic foil or somekind of plastic (like plastic from soil or garbage bag) in the outdoor growing. They dig hole and put plants into the ground with the bag. They do it for 2 reasons for water irrigation and to stop other plants roots to spreed between soil of the plant. I was thinking that maybe the plastic bag isnt the best option because it can hold to much water and the roots can start to mold, my question is if I use fabric insted of plastic bag which doesnt stop the water but it stops the roots from other plants, or it is just stupid to use anything and it is better withought any fabric/foil?

Also all your advices for other materials are welcome.

Fabric pots above ground works very well.

For planting in holes 1/2" hardware cloth in a mugshape tied with rust resistant wire seems to be the way to go.

I have some realy good fabric to use :) and im thinking to make some pots from it, but I will defenetly dig a hole due to water save, I just want to confirm my thoughts about the benefit of the fabric in the holes, because in one hand it constrains marihuana plants to spreed even ferder into the soil but on the other hand other plants roots can get into the soil of the plant if you dont use fabric so its kind a two way road but i think that it is better to use it than not to use it??

I'd you're talking about the weed barrier fabric I would just build some of your own fabric smart pots. I use these outdoors every season. The plants roots grow into the fabric and layer themselves as they grow through to the outside triggering more root to develop. Ime these weed barrier fabrics do not keep out most roots. They'll grow into and right through it, I would imagine w more ease if they were completely buried

using fabric defeats the purpose...properly watered lined holes conserve water and don't hurt plants at all....... I wouldn't bother with weed block/landscape fabric unless doing containers....yeehaw..roots from other plants have never been an issue in my gardens...
