been lurking around this site for months now. great info. thanks to all! i did a 2 plant grow years ago and have recently bought a tent with 1000watthps. my question is...i have twice now taking me plants 2-3 weeks and well rooted healthy plants and put them under big light but they keep drooping over and eventually die. do i need to let them get bigger and older before putting under bigger lights besides my 2 23 watt cfls i use for starting these? im guessing putting under 1000watt is to much but this also happen after moving under 400 mhl to. please help! strain is blued dream if matters.

You need to add a lot more info to get some help. Soil or hydro. What kind of nutrients and what amounts. what is the temperature in the tent? Pictures would be best.

You need to acclimate them to the big lights. You're shocking them with a much stronger light, which is also likely warmer and drier. Transpiration shuts down, et voila, dead plants.

countryside101,

SeaMaiden's answer is likely correct. I've burnt a few plants in just this manner.

Just like your tomotoes in the Spring time, you can't take them straight from the tame CFL to the intense Sun, or HPS in this case. When a plant makes leaves, it builds them based on the light they are receiving. So a leaf that is used to low light, is gonna freak out if ya stick it right into bright light. They have to get used to it over a period of days. They need to be acclimated. Raise that big light waaaaay up, then each day bring it down closer.

Aye, Nancy is correct.

Did you know that if you don't take care to acclimate them to the lighting, you can burn corals? They're under water, being burned. That's what light can do.

Thx for responses. I think I figured it out. Combo of things. Over watering stunted growth and shock of light change. They all seem to be growing faster now that learn amount of water needed. My 1000 watt hps ballast isn't adjustable... How would I go about moving them into the tent with hps??

I go from t-5's straight to a 1K HID either a MH or HPS. I've never had any problems but I have the girls within a couple inches of the t-5s and a couple feet or more of the HID's. Works for me.

Start them with the HID lights further away, then over the course of a week or two (depending on how they respond) move the lights closer and closer until they're where you want them.
