Help! ! ! starting 4th week of flowering .Buds the size of bananas already plant cannot support weight .What can I use to to support branches and keep my babies upright,Any information would be helpful.
Mofodo
Thanks Sandman, already have 3 to 4 stakes per plant,i'm using 2 gallon buckets &ebb& flow system my babies are about 5 ft and at least 3 ft in diamiter with lots of branching the stakes work well at first but not any more any body have any other suggestions
Could always screw some hooks into the ceiling and attach a bunch of strings to support the branches...I know it's a PITA, but it works for the tree growers. Also might wanna consider a carb & potassium silicate product if you're not using them as well - they'll help improve stem/branch strength.
Think I'm about to have the same problem man, so I definitely feel your pain. Think what I'm gonna try is cutting a couple of fat rubber bands for each branch tip. Tie one (like so loose I can get my pinky finger between it and the rubber band) very loosely around the main stem and the other just under the long buds on the tip of the branch. Then tie a piece of string between the two. Should work out where there's enough opposing forces at such small intervals on the main stem that the main stem will hold up fine. I mean I'm not an engineer but I figure it's worth a try. What are we talking about here, maybe 3-4 oz of pull per branch? More than that and I'm gonna be in stash for a long time, lol.
Got two plants and they're filling up a 7'wide closet. White Widow's 4'11" from the top of the coco in the pot to the tip of the main cola. Aurora Indica's about a foot shorter. Day 38 into flower. Coco's done me right!
hi mofodo,
there is not much else you can do now but to use alot of string to tie the bud up and stop it falling over.
Next time round, to prevent the stems beeing too weak again, you need to train up your stems with daily stengthening before they start flowering.
Think of your plant as a person who wishes to compete in a weight lifting competition in a few weeks time. No training and the person will be weak as shit and will not be able to lift the weight. If he has been training daily he has a very good chance of beeing able to lift it.
Training can be done by blowing air onto your plants but a better method (if you have the time to do so) is bending every branch about in all 4 directions every day.
You will see that there is only about a 3 week period in a plants life when it can receive training as before this time the plant will be too small and after this time the plant will be producing lots of pistils, make sure to train your plant well in this time or it will "collapse" under the weight.
More airflow!! I understand that growers in tight spots don't always have the luxury of two or three fans to strengthen the plant. I know that I swear by it though and it goes a decent ways to keeping odor down(along with not letting that growroom temp. get too high).
