Plants always look like crap around harvest time...

Heavy

Member
Not sure why, but every plant I've ever grown always seem to deteriorate rapidly in the last 2-3 weeks of flower. The fans and sugar trim surrounding the buds get discolored and crispy making the plant just look plain raggedy and ugly. They all seem to be fine and healthy all through flower but seem to go down hill rapidly in the last 2-3 weeks of 12/12. I know yellowing is normal but should I be getting discoulored and crispy trim/sugar leaves?

I know pics would help but I have none at the moment, sorry.

Any suggestions or ideas would be greatly appreciated?

I grow in soil by the way.

It sounds like you are not meeting the plants nutritional needs. If you can't post pics, then maybe try to figure out what's wrong using Stitch's thread in the stickies. Otherwise, it's going to be hard for us to figure out what the problem is. I will tell you that P and K are probably the most likely culprits in late flower.

Hey there weed how ya doing friend?

Heavy, as weedninja has stated; the more info you give the better, there could be a culpirt that is causing the issue, but you do not know and forget to give certain information and then your problem goes un-diagnosed.

Fill out the questions below, pick one, if you are using soil; fill out the soil one; using hydro... fill out the hydro one.

ARE YOU USING?

SOIL:

How long has this problem been going on?
What STRAIN are you growing?
What was the establishing technique? (seed or clone?)
What is the age of your plants?
How long have they been in the soil mixture they are in now?
How Tall are the plants?
What PHASE (seedling, vegetative or flower) are the plants in?
What Technique are you using? (SOG, SCROG etc)
What size pots are you using? (Include how many subjects to pot)
What substrate/medium are you using? What brand of soil mixture are you using?(percentage of perlite, vermiculite...etc?)
What Nutrient's are you using?
How much of each nutrient are you using with how much water? *Knowing the brand is very helpful*
How often are you feeding?
If flowering, when did you switch over to using Bloom nutrients?
What order are you mixing your nutrients? (example: veg nutes 1st, bloom 2nd ect)
What is the TDS/EC/PPM of your nutrients used?
What is the pH of the "RUN-OFF"?
What method of pH test was administered? Using Strips? pH pen?
How often are you watering?
When was your last feeding and how often are you feeding?
What size bulb are you using?
What is the distance to the canopy?
What is your RH Factor? (Relative Humidity)
What is the canopy temperature?
What is the Day/Night Temp? (Include fluctuation range)
What is the current Air Flow? (cfm etc.)
Tell us about your ventilation, intake exhaust and when its running and not running ?
Is the fan blowing directly at plants?
Is the grow substrate constantly wet or moist?
Is your water HARD or SOFT?
What water are you using? Reverse Osmosis (RO)? Tap? Bottled? Well water? Distilled? Mineral Water?
Are you using water from a water softener?
Has plant been recently pruned, cloned or pinched?
Have any pest chemicals been used? If so what and when?
Are plant's infected with pest's?

HYDROPONICS/Aero Ponics/Coco/Soiless/

How long has this problem been going on?
Are you growing in a PVC grow tent? (example: Hydrohut or any other non brand tents)
What system are you running? (DWC? Ebb flow? Aero? Water Farm? Flood Tables? and so on...)
What STRAIN are you growing?
What was the establishing technique? (Were the seed or clone?)
What is the age of your plants?
How long have they been in there mixture they are in now?(coco, soiless etc..)
How tall are the plants?
What PHASE are the plants in? (seedling, vegetative or flower) are the plants in?
What Technique are you using?
What substrate/medium are you using?(Hydroton, RockWool etc.)
What is the Water temperature?
What color are your roots? White? Brown? Are your roots slimy?
What Nutrient's are you using?(If growing soiless)
How much of each nutrient are you using with how much water? *Knowing the brand is very helpful*
How often are you feeding? (If using soiless)
How often are you giving nutrients? (If using soiless)
If flowering, when did you switch over to using Bloom nutrients?
What order are you mixing your nutrients? (example: veg nutes 1st, bloom 2nd ect)
What is the TDS/EC/PPM you are using?
What is the pH of the "Tank"?
Are you sure your calibration is correct on your equiptment?
When was your last watering?
What is your water temps?
When was your last feeding change? (ie. grow-bloom-micro-additional)
How often do you clean your system: example: Flush out water replace with clean water and nutrients?
What size bulb are you using?
What is the distance to the canopy?
What is your RH Factor(Relative Humidity)?
What is the canopy temperature?
What is the Day/Night Temp? (Include flucutaion range)
What is the current Air Flow? (cfm etc.)

sounds like classic heatsress. plants need air. get a fan blowing on the tops from the side.

and keep a constant PH.

I grow in soil by the way.

I usually have the same problem. The buds are fine though. Still the plant looks dead and it leaves me wondering if my yield is suffering.

I have a 12k btu window ac for a 2.5 k grow in a 10x10 room. Suprised that its getting to 85F in some spots. Gonna seal my grow this weekend with co2 and hopefully that will cool things down and put this to an end.

anyways like somebody said sounds like heat. Hope you get this resolved.

I also have the same problem, Ill harvest tomorow, so maybe some of my pics can help, just gotta get some batteries for the camera

I've been to a lot of trims in my days, including a lot of guys who grew way too many stains for their own good. I've seen a few places where each strain had its own light or two, so the contrast was very obvious. some stay green to the very end and some turn into horror shows.

Although if the tiny frosty leaves are crisping you should iron out any possible issues in your feed schedule and make sure they arent being blasted too hard by the lamps.

Don't overthink it, if you read every post that replies here, you'll end up getting told to add your mom's used tampons to the feed water or something.

It'll be a simple fix, stick to your manufacturer's feed schedule with appropriate adjustments for proper ec.

Is this normal? I know its normal for the fan leaves to turn yellow at harvest, But drying to a crisp like that? The Buds are fine, but Im not sure what the cause of the defficiency is. This is BBCheese at 8 weeks, with BioGrow and BioBloom

the yellowing leaves always happens. I think. For me at least. It means the energy is going into the buds not the leaves. The curling stuff...I think that depends on the strain...in same area had some sagarmatha THING going with some other stuff, and the Sagarmatha was like DONE dude...leaves ALL crazy and falling to crap. But again, that was the plant diverting energy to the flowers rather than leaves.
I also have some suspicions about HPS...I'm wondering if you may need to supplement with cfl or something to stop that yellowing/curling, etc.

mine tend to do that too, i think its just nearing the end of its life cycle. theyre like old people, once they get to a certain age they just start falling apart and then they die lol

hey there guys. i make an effort to have my plants looking like that the last several weeks. the weeds taste better and smokes much smoother if you get rid of all that nitrogen

Cheese what are your night time temps...... nitrogen deficiency does not cause curling crispy leaves.... the only way it does is if it turns tanish color after it's been sucked dry...... then it curls.... but if it's not tan and curling that is not from nitrogen issue

If that is what you are referring too, then yes nitrogen does do that.

You want yellowing leaves at harvest.... it's normal like you stated... unless you want a harsh smoke.... then give it food! j/k :)
