Planting Seeds - Plant maturity

It is not talked about enough, that in nature, MJ seeds germ in March/April/May and finish in Sept/Oct/Nov and maybe Dec in some places. That is 6-7-8 months from seed to weed.

MJ will not produce the best product from a seed that has been germed and forced to finish blooming, indoors, inside 6 months. We can germ/veg/bloom inside 4 months. Immature plants from seed, I believe, create many of the 'this strain doesnt produce shit and is not very potent' arguments about historically good quality strains. I've found that the 2nd grow of a seed plant (from clone) starts to produce much higher yields than the first or second grow, of more potent weed and the 3rd go (clones) even more.

I think there might be some truth to that.

I've noticed a couple times when starting from seed, growing till I could take cuts and flowering them that, after that batch is done the next set of clones from that mother can yield more and better buds. BUT..it could just be that you're dialing in a new strain??

With all due respect, I think you are wrong.

Here in Hawaii we have three seasons. I personally think short season (Sept-Dec) produces the best smoke. The plants germ, vege, bloom outside and are ready to take at about 100 days. The plants don't yield much though.

Also in my experience a plant from seed grows bigger and stronger than a clone. From seed the plant puts down a big tap root vs a hodgepodge of smaller roots like a clone.

Though the weed is may seem different the second go round of a clone, head to head there is not much improvement. Geneticly each clone is the same. I used to think each run was better until I saved some smoke from each plant and tried them out side by side. Neither I or my testers could tell the difference.

Granted you did say indoors. And these are my opinions. Nothing more.

Yes, inside. Outside, I do not know but nature provides enough time for 'her' work to be enough time there. No clones in nature.

i have never noticed a difference. i actually find my seedlings produce a bit more than clones.

You are growing from seed, inside? My observations are 'general', you may have the seeds from god. What can I say? In my experiences, the 3rd run and onward, from clone, are the most productive. Are you growing autos?

'Dialing in', could be. didnt give that a thought but my environment has ben the same. My point is that MJ requires time to mature to its' fullest. Newbees are quick to call some of the most talked about and potent strains 'garbage' . When new at this all we can think about is yield and potency. "Dial in"? There is none of that in the beginning (for most, when they are new) yield and potency is everyting. Patience isnt always there. It wasnt for me.

I've never had a clone produce anywhere near as much as a seed plant.

Well..even newbs gain experience and brow better with each successive crop.

Someone beat me to it but..autoflowering strains...typically done in 90 days. NO WAY to let them get any older.

As far as seed vs clone....a clone IS a plant from seed. The mother originally started from a seed and each cutting off that plant IS that plant.
I grow in RDWC systems. My totes or tubs or pails get STUFFED with roots. The rootmass takes on the shape of the container. There is no ROOM for more roots...whether the plant was started from seed or cutting. They are typically around 7 (give or take a week) weeks old when I flip them. They are big plants with massive healthy white roots. There are NO deficiencies in root production and all my flowering plants were cloned from a mother that can be anywhere from 2 months to over two years old....but...they are ALL plants that I originally started from seed.

ANYWAY...I'm not trying to start or continue a pissing match. I'm just saying that in my rooms plants that I rooted from cuttings off a plant that was started from seed don't have any root problems or less roots than the plants that I started from seed and when I flower a plant that was started purely from seed I don't get better weed or more roots.

YMMV I suppose though.

PEACE.

I get your point about roots and roots support the plants. When I grew RDWC production and roots were very good but in the same box, they produced better and better til the 3rd run of clones, they didnt necessarly have more roots, I dont remember. Plant maturity is an issue to concider when one writes about their grow.
