plant flags

I need to come up ewith a solution to better track my grows. I'm going to get a label printer, so I can easily produce a label with the salient info: strain and some sort of unique identifier (in the form of a bar code) I could slap this label on the pot, but that's sub optimal. I'd like to find some sort of wire spike with a flag I can pu the label on. I know I've seen such things, but the gardener's supplies type catalogs I have on hand don't seem to have them.
some would say: why do you need to print labels? to them I say I can't read my own flocking handwriting. and while this might seem an ideal small crafts project, all I can say is there haven't been coat hangers in my apartment since I dedicated my closets to growing. I tried google, and aparently "garden flag" has a specific meaning different from mine.

I feel you bro. It's like one big mystery grow for me sometimes. I always think I'll remember, but I never do. I have "UK" A-Z in my garden. UK=unknown, Im always mixing up clones and seedlings haha. The HEADS have a great method. They use plastic spoons. They write the strain name on the spoon and shove the handle in. Just be creative bro. A small stick with a assigned color or a pencil with a taped flag. Just print the label, then make sure there is extra blank sticky label at the end and then just wrap the blank part around a pencil or cut dowel and it will be a little strain banner. good luck bro.

I use a piece of elastic thread and loop the plant tags around the base of the stalk. This way the plant tag doesn't get separated from the plant, even when it's moved or transplanted.

You will need some way of waterproofing your labels; if you use inkjet ink, it will run the first time it gets wet. Covering them with packing tape is one option.

I make my plant tags or plant labels from pieces of plastic cut out of an empty plastic jug (usually a bleach jug); I write the code for the plant on the tag, melt a hole in it with a soldering iron, and put a piece of elastic thread through the hole for attaching it to the plant. Each seedling (or clone) gets its own tag as soon as it sprouts (or is cut from the mother plant).

turns out the term for what I want is "plant markers". I tried these things like popsicle sticks, but they had 2 problems- the handwriting problem, and a dowser-like ability to slice the tap root my plan is to re-label when I transplant or move them from veg to flower or when they show sex. (the "last major event" date will be recorded on the label. I'm planning on using a label specific printer dedicated to this purpose. these appear to use heat transfer rather than any form of ink. there are what they call tuff labels for these gadgets

I use "F-tags" for my veging plants. The tags are thin pointed white plastic cards with a big "F" on them. When I come across a plant that I think is a female, I pop an F-tag into the soil of said plant. I find it easier to isolate my female plants with the tags.
