Pinholes of light coming out of Homebox Growlab??

Q

quokka

I have just opened a Homebox Growlab tent that i bought last year.

I had another cheaper one i tried a few years ago and it had little light leaks everywhere so i put it in the bin.

Now that i have set up the Growlab, which i thought was good quality i notice the same thing, little pin pricks of light around some of the seems??

Aren't they supposed to be 100% light proof?

I was wanting to have the light on at night and off during the day because of the heat, will that still be possible with these tiny pinholes?

Thanks for any help. :thank you: :ying:

Also, this tent sucks in too much, is there any way of preventing this?

Thanks. :thank you:

They sell rolls of initation panda plastic on e bay. For $70 you can get a 10 x 100 ft roll, its black on one side, white on the other. I have a homemade growbox, that has some light leaks on the door I made on it. First off I have my cab with the back of it against a wall. Then I took and cut a piece of plastic big enough to wrap around the three sides not against a wall. I use the floor joice to staple the plastic too, and keep the white side facing out. Then I staple the plastic sheet to the back top corner on one of the sides. I know it may seem like a pain in the ass..........but it works. No light leaks, no hermies. Lot cheaper than buying a new tent, and the plastic lasts forever. You could even use stick on Velcro to hold it to the tent, instead of staples. Duct tape also work well at fixing "pinhole" leaks. Just put double or triple layers, it will stop the light.

I was just concerned the tiny holes would leak some light in on the dark period.

Hopefully it shouldn't be a problem.

Now i have the exhaust fan sucking so well it is making the tent go concave on the sides.....

Yea as people have said the pinpricks are something you just live with. I tried to make the room where the tent was in as dark as possible just as a precaution.

Also I had the concave problem also. I wanted to get more hanging rods like the ones used to hang the light, but I wasn't able to source those. So I just ended up cutting bamboo stakes to the right size and tied them across the sides attached to the frame of the tent and this adds a little more rigidity.

My tent has always had pinhole leaks around seams too. Haven't run into a problem yet. If you are really worried, zip yourself up inside and look for light leaking in.

The sides of my tent suck in as well, just a result of negative pressure. Haven't run into any problems, in fact it's a good visual indicator that my exhaust fan is working correctly ;)

The only problem for me was it turned my 4x4 tent into a 3x3...
here is a bad pick of the tent with the stakes up next to the fan. i put 2 per side except the door where i just accepted the concavity.

but this seemed to work well for me, hope it helps

and for kicks a pick of the buds in there that were produced

Nice buds. :)

I agree, it wouldn't be much of a problem except it reduces the amount of room inside the tent quite a lot.

2 things I wanna mention.

1- If your tent is in a room that is gonna have some lights on during the dark period, I would not just leave it to chance and hope it's not gonna be an issue. Pick up a roll of reflectix and line the inside of your tent with it behind the poles. This will ensure there's no direct light hitting any plants from the pinhole leaks.

2- You can expect a little concaving on the walls, but if there's a lot then either your extraction fan is working harder than it needs to, or you don't have enough open slots for passive intake and you should open up more vents.

It seems every tent will need some modification sooner or later .. I always advise studying it for the weakest link which is often plastic connectors that give in time . I think they all leak a little light but I have zipped myself inside and could not find light leaks

Well, the room was sort of dark, i could see a bit but not very well, so i thought it would be close to black inside the tent......

But after 4 or 5 weeks of flowering i was seeing weird growth, some sort of flowering and some not at all.

I had to make buy plastic to make the room completely black, and i think it's working.

I'm just a bit annoyed that the good quality brands of tents can't even make a light proof tent. It wouldn't be hard.

It should be dark enough to flower if it was outside sitting in the direct sunlight, then they would be 'good quality'.
