(Pics) Burning, Yellowing, etc... In an Aero Bucket

Hey guys, I'm having some trouble with my plants. Most of them seem to be doing alright but most still show slight signs of burning, yellowing, curling (both up & down)... and there seems to be something green growing on the hydrotron, perhaps alagae. And somne of my roots are dark, I dont know if this indicates anything but I figured I would add it to the list of potential problems.

Although most of my plants are doing alright with only small signs of these problems, "Some" seem to be doing especially horrible. Here are some photos I took...

(I will list my grow spesifics after the photos)

[Heres a good looking one]

[And now for the bad]

[Now for the alright but still showing signs]

[The Hydrotron]

[And Finally the Roots]

[And heres some extras]

-My plants are in a simple rubbermaid bucket.
-They are getting bottom fed with aeroponic misters
-Nutes are G.H. FloraGro & FloraMicro (1 tsp per gallon)
-Ph has recently been lowered when burning, curling, and yellowing were noticed (It looks to be about 6 to 6.5 now)
-Light is a 600w HPS and the bottom of the hood is 31" from the top of the bucket (Plants are 2 to 5 inches in height)

If anyone needs to know more about my setup to help diagnose my problems then please let me know.

Thanks guys,

First off, what are your temps in the container? Is this a dwc&aero setup? To me it looks like ph problems..hydro ph is suppossed to be in the high 5s i believe. And making a large change in ph all of a sudden will deff create more problems..gradualy lower your ph over a few days not all at once

ph trouble, nutrients lock out (your plants will assimilate N better at ph 5.5 to ph 5.8, u can raise it up a little at mid flowering when yur plants need more pk nutrients which are best assimilated at a ph level a bit higher).

Also did u wash the hydrotons with ph adapted water and a tiny bit (couple of drops) of bleach (= fungi killer) or h202 before use or re-use? if u never washed them (or stored them wet and /or in a humid place), it could explain the fungi / alga

At what concentration (ppm / EC) do you use yur nutrients so far?

Aeroponics are imho very interesting for yield 'n that, but no so easy to use on the first couple of grows bro

good luck with them

Mango420- I do not know the temp of the water but it feels cool to the touch. My setup is aero only. Thanks for the advice about the ph, I have now changed it and things are looking much nicer.

koolaid- Thanks for pointing out my ph problem too, everything seems to be much healthier now. Soon I'm going to raise the amount of FloraMicro and FloraGro up to, what G.H. refers to on their Variation Chart as "Strong General Purpose", which is 1.25tsp/gallon of FloraMicro and 2tsp/gallon of FloraGro. Should I go ahead and do this or is this a bad idea for some reason.

I am still concerned about the Alagae looking stuff growing on the hydrotron. How much bleach or h202 should I use for about 18 gallons of water? Is there any preperation procedure or should I just throw it in when changing the water?

Thanks guys,

Perhaps someone could shed some light on my problem. I'm trying to avoid posting another thread because I know how much people hate the newbies posting a million threads on the same subject.

Thanks Guys,

I'm doing DWC and have never seen algae on hydroton. I'm going to guess you're top feeding. Keep the top layer of rocks dry and/or get some covers for the netpots. Foil will do.

If your doing aero u dont even need hydroton. Just place the cuts in neoprene pucks in your container. then the spray hits the main root zone not just the tap roots..aeroponics is a medium-less way of growing..grab yourself a aquarium themometer from walmart for about $2, help save you guessing the temps :joint:
