Personally, what the picture is and who took it are irrelevant. I want a great, clear, crisp photo, then we can talk about what it is and who took it but it still wont effect my vote.

I love these threads, but they always end up the same way. People vote not on the quality of the photography but on what the photo is of or who took it.

I won the last one. The photo was a composite macro made of over a hundred images, each image had a 2 second shutter speed and was all done with a manual macro rail. All the images take at least a hour to take, not including the time it takes to process and edit it through my computer (that use to take hours back before my computer upgrade). Tweaking artsy lighting and stuff can kill even more time.
If you have time, look in the myassisgrass thread of all the winners back to like 05 I think, all of them are incredible. Really hard to find one single photo that isn’t good if you ask me. Some guys even back then were winning with composite macros.

Hey phenome, I tried a few of those myself, after seeing the images monkeymike put up. I'm not knocking anyone for winning, and its been a while since these threads have been run. If you look, you'll see a thread begging for this thread to start up again when it was stopped. I'm all over that thread.
If anyone takes time to put a nice image together, I applaud them in any thread, but towards the end of the regular threads, the criticism I put forward here was a common one. The thread was not about photo quality, it was about popularity of subject matter if someone was hyping the latest and greatest or the member if they had a bunch of mates online to get the seeds.
My post here was a call to members to keep it clean this time, and actually judge the photo. I do disagree with the photo that is in the lead, but knew it would be as soon as I saw it. That's why I posted. Nothing personal towards previous winners or future winners, just people voting on seeing something they like, rather than seeing the photo.

So everyone should have your same level of understanding of photography and vote the way you do?


I hear what you are saying about it being a popularity contest in the past but its a pretty picture contest at the end of the day and what catches someone's eye is as subjective as subjective gets.


Not everyone has the same level of appreciation for photography or for cannabis for that matter. I like a good pic but God damn, I am pointing and clicking with an android phone and to see what people like phenome are doing for a pic, its no wonder they won.


At the end of the day, we got one month down and doing a good job on month 2 let's keep it rolling. If it turns into belly aching about people not voting for the "best pic" and general negativity, it will disappear again in an instant.


Enjoy that its back and add some positivity or go elsewhere.

Who the hell do you think you are?

If its subjective, then I have the right to hold my opinion. Its a forum where people are invited to share their opinions. That's what I did. I was challenged politely about that opinion and so I explained it politely.

Now you think you get to tell me to go else where? Where's the positivity in that? Is it pretty picture of the month or is it photo of the month?

I thought Canadians were polite, but I guess every stereotype has exceptions to the rule.
