PHing my nutes

Ive been having problems with soil ph after theyve rooted a bit in their pots.

Everyone says PHing with soil isnt necessary. But obviously it is.

I have some ph up and down by GH. Is it ok to use these hydro products to ph to.6.5?

I use FF Big Bloom, Silica, Floralicious+, and CalMag when needd in FFOF.

yes it's fine. you need to wait and check it doesn't swing back though ideally because the first readings you get will be off, depending on the volume and how violently you stir the water to react up all the acid/alkaline molecules you need..

Nice avatar.

But just to make sure im understanding...

You mean let the nutrs settle in the water for a while before checking the ph?

I usually mix up, then aerate for an hour or so anyways.

IF you have a good organic soil and your water source isnt crazy acidic ,Phing your water is not necessary. The ph up down you have is for hydro.Botanicare and nectar of the gods make an organic ph up down.

What type of nutes are you using?

i mean once you have pH'd just be aware that 24 hours later the water/solution can swing by 0.5 or so..

tokersmoke is correct, and it is a much preferable and time/effort saving in the long run to go down that route, but if you are using chemical nutes then you are better off ensuring you are watering/feeding at 6.2-6.5 .

lost and me are on the same page.IF you are using chem nutes with soil then ph your water with the gh up down.If you are using organic nutes in good soil with plenty of amendments and beneficials no phing is necessary.I have to get organic ph up for my well water because it is so low.my ph is 4.0 out of the well!!

My medium is FFOF.

And i dont think any of my nutes are chemicals. Maybe the flora+?

And my water ph is around an even 7 i think. Ill check later.

Well since ive added the lime(1tbs/gal) could it make my soil too accidic

That base soil has loam in so its possible you added extra lime than was needed and should make sure you pH your feed/water really to <6.5 if you aren't and it comes out at 7 with nutrients in.

The nutes and soil alone won't make your root zone organic, you have to add the bacteria as well. EWC/vermicompost and teas etc..

the big bloom and floralicious are apparantly from organic sources and the cal/mg is probably all right so long as you don't over do it, i would advise use very little, your soil and nutes will probably have a fair bit in anyway.

Its all good.I have a friend who i gave clones to and he put them in pots with NO HOLES.about a week later he called me bitching about them dying. As soon as i saw there where no holes in the pots i almost fell out.

Point is your doing good,Just read research and become buddies with exp growers.Fox farm soil is ready to use out of the bag and is a premium soil.No nutrients are needed for 45 days depending on pot size.If you transplant them into a huge pot with the whole bag you can use no nutes the whole cycle. If you feel they need a boost Fox farm ocean forest makes a wonderful topdressing.

Good luck

The debate always rages with partisans taking rigid positions on both sides about pHing nutes for organic soil. The thing is that if you're having problems, I recommend pHing for a while to eliminate that as a possible cause. If that doesn't fix it, then you'll know it's something else. Besides, pHing may or may not be necessary, but it doesn't hurt anything. Takes more labor so if you don't need to and are having no problems, why bother.

What so many people with hard and fast opinions forget, is that it depends on your water. If you have water like mine, your better off pHing. Tap waters vary to say the least.

Earth Juice makes organic pH up and down. Check it out. Good luck. -granger
