Do pheromones play any role in sexual expression? I ask this because when 100 seeds sprout, all things being equal, you get approx a 50/50 mix male and female. The few times I sprouted seeds, I did so in the presence of a room full of females in flower, and got a really disproportional male ratio. Like over 80% males. The same batch of seeds sprouted elsewhere (no Cannabis around) expressed the usual 50/50. I asked this before elsewhere, and was ridiculed.
I know that Clarke says that sex is predetermined in the gamete, but is it possible that sex isn't really determined until after germination? It makes sense, to me at least, that one of the "survival" mechanisms would be to wait until the seedling sensed the surrounding population to determine what it would be. A field full of females would generate males and vice versa.
I figure that you guys would know, if anyone did.
